Gardening Crew Leader — Diggable Designs Landscape & Gardening

$24–$26/hour | Full-time seasonal | Mid-March–November | Monday–Friday | Lakewood, CO / Denver Metro field work

Diggable Designs is hiring a Gardening Crew Leader for our landscape maintenance team. This is a hands-on field leadership role for someone who knows Colorado plants, takes pride in thoughtful garden care, and can lead a small crew while keeping quality, pace, and communication on track.

The work

As a Gardening Crew Leader, you’ll lead daily gardening and horticultural maintenance work across residential and commercial properties in the Denver Metro area and foothill communities.

You’ll help keep gardens healthy, clean, and improving over time — not just “maintained.” You’ll make field decisions, guide your crew, communicate site needs, and report back clearly to the Maintenance Department Manager.

This role is a mix of hands-on horticulture, small crew leadership, client communication, and field problem-solving.

What success looks like

You’ll be successful in this role when:

• Gardens are cared for with horticultural judgment. You can identify plant health issues, weeds, pests, pruning needs, soil concerns, and seasonal priorities.
• The crew stays productive and clear on the plan. You keep the team on schedule, track time accurately, and help newer team members learn the right way to do the work.
• Communication is clean and dependable. Notes are clear, follow-up items are reported, clients are treated professionally, and the Maintenance Department Manager knows what needs attention.

What you’ll do

• Lead and train a small gardening crew of 1–2 employees
• Perform detailed garden maintenance, perennial care, weeding, pruning, planting, and seasonal cleanup
• Identify weeds, pests, diseases, plant health concerns, and site issues
• Use proper pruning techniques for trees and shrubs
• Understand Colorado soil conditions and amendments
• Work with irrigation clocks, minor repairs, and basic system functions
• Interact professionally with clients about plant health care needs
• Take clear notes and communicate updates to the Maintenance Department Manager
• Track time, keep the crew moving, and help jobs stay on schedule
• Follow and enforce safety protocols
• Support additional field needs as assigned

Must-haves

• Minimum 3 years of field-based horticulture, gardening, or landscape maintenance experience in Colorado
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
• Ability to be insured on the company’s vehicle insurance policy
• Reliable transportation
• Ability to lead, train, and communicate with a small field team
• Strong plant knowledge and attention to detail
• Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to work outdoors in Colorado weather
• Ability to lift 50 lbs. without assistance and perform physically demanding field work
• Ability to use hand and power tools safely

Preferred certifications

Preference given to candidates with:

• Colorado Master Gardener or Gardening Certificate
• Rocky Mountain Gardener
• Certified Landscape Technician, applicable categories
• Certified Pesticide Applicator, applicable categories

Schedule and work environment

This is a full-time seasonal position from mid-March through November.

Typical schedule:

Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM–5:00 PM

Work happens outdoors at changing job sites throughout the Denver Metro area and foothill communities. You’ll work in typical Colorado conditions, including heat, cold, wind, and inclement weather. Transportation between job sites happens in a crew vehicle during the workday.

Pay: $24–$26/hour, depending on relevant skills and experience
