Milieu Staff

Residential Level 2 - Substance Use & Mental Health

Location: Florida
Pay: Starting at $16.50 per hour
Status: Non-Exempt | Hourly
Schedule: Flexible - Day, Evening, Overnight, Weekday & Weekend shifts available based on facility needs

Job Summary

The Milieu Staff provides direct care, supervision, and recovery-oriented support to adults in a Residential Level 2 substance use and co-occurring mental health treatment program. Staff maintain a working knowledge of the Client Manual, which outlines the Modified Therapeutic Community (MTC) model-a structured, recovery-oriented approach that uses the community as the primary agent of change to support behavioral change, personal responsibility, and long-term recovery. This role supports a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment in accordance with Florida DCF (65D-30) and CARF standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide continuous supervision and monitoring of residents
  • Assist clients with activities of daily living (ADLs), promoting dignity and independence
  • Conduct rounds, bed checks, and behavioral observations
  • Support daily schedules, programming, and recovery activities
  • Assist with crisis prevention and de-escalation
  • Monitor and document client self-administration of medications per policy (non-licensed role)
  • Observe and report medication issues or adverse reactions
  • Complete accurate shift notes, incident reports, and logs
  • Maintain client rights, confidentiality, and professional boundaries
  • Assist with admissions, orientations, and discharges as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Ability to pass DCF Level II background screening
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights and weekends
  • Basic documentation and computer skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in residential substance use or mental health treatment
  • Peer Specialist Certification (Florida Certified Peer Specialist or equivalent) preferred
  • Behavioral Health Technician or related certification preferred
  • Experience with co-occurring disorders

Work Environment

  • Residential behavioral health treatment setting
  • Direct client contact in a structured recovery environment


GENERAL STANDARDS

1) Is familiar with New Hope Therapeutic Community model rules and regulations

2) Completes responsibilities within designated timeframes.

3) Meets residential program standards established CARF, local and government-related entities.

4) Demonstrates knowledge of New Hope policies and procedures

5) Addresses clients and other staff members appropriately

6) Communicates client needs and concerns to the appropriate staff member, if necessary


AGENCY REQUIRED STANDARDS

7) Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to all types of issues related to client diversity, including cultural, ethnic, language, gender preference, sexual orientation, physical handicap, and spiritual diversity.

8) Keeps work area clean and organized.

9) Attends and actively participates in staff meetings.

10) Able to increase work pace and prioritize to accommodate emergencies or rush assignments.

11) Clarifies assignments/responsibilities with administrative staff.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The work is primarily sedentary. Typically, the employee will sit to do the work. However, there may

be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as books, papers, etc,, accessing

transportation, and driving a car or van.


EDUCATION AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

a. High School Diploma or Equivalency; bachelor's degree preferred.


Required responsibilities:

  • Must have a valid drivers license and be able to drive clients to and from appointments/meetings when needed.
  • Be able to cover shifts when needed paid at OVERTIME
