Academic Tutor / Direct Instruction Instructor


Our client, Direct Approach Educational Services Inc., is looking for dynamic individuals who are passionate about working with children and students with various academic needs. The successful candidate will support students in achieving their educational goals through the Direct Instruction teaching method, while also providing senior-level homework support to high school students.

Direct Instruction is a teaching technique that has been proven effective through more than 35 years of testing and scientific research. Programs are delivered using a structured, scripted teaching method designed to ensure consistent interaction between the student and instructor.

This is a great opportunity for a College or University student, or someone looking for rewarding part-time work supporting students with their academic development.


This is an in-person position.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Deliver 1:1 program instruction based on specific educational programs to students with various academic needs.
  • Provide homework help and academic support in Math, English, and Science at the high school level.
  • Follow the Direct Instruction teaching methodology and established program guidelines.
  • Write comprehensive and detailed notes regarding student performance and progress.
  • Complete accurate and timely progress reports.
  • Communicate effectively as part of a team to ensure that all individuals involved in the student's learning are kept up to date on their progress.


Qualifications

  • College or University student or graduate
  • Previous experience working with children and students.
  • Previous tutoring experience is preferred.
  • Strong academic knowledge, particularly in high school-level Math, English, and/or Science.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow structured teaching programs and provide accurate progress documentation.
  • Must be flexible and available to work Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 1–2 evenings per week.
  • Access to a vehicle is a definite asset.
