Schedule of Hours: 16 hours per week (Tues and Thursday 3-7 pm, Monday Wednesday 1-5 pm – times may be adjustable based on the employee and the needs of the agency)

Possible Percentage of Work from Home: This position is almost exclusively on-site. There may be administrative tasks that can be supported from home, no more than 10% of the time

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

As the only agency in San Mateo County with the sole purpose of serving those experiencing intimate partner abuse, CORA provides safety, support and healing. CORA’s comprehensive services for clients include a 24-hour hotline, emergency shelter, legal services and counseling. In addition, CORA provides community education and prevention programming throughout the county. POSITION SUMMARY

This POSITION will be a vital role in CORA’s Mental Health team. An essential part of the position will be to providing supervised activity and play time with minor children while their parents are in therapy or other program service sessions. We are looking for someone with an eagerness to engage children in age appropriate activities and to support them emotionally while their adult family members receive care at CORA. This position works closely with the Mental Health Clinical team and at times with staff from the Legal Department or Housing staff, including its staff and volunteers, while reporting directly to the Mental Health Child Program’s Coordinator.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBLITIES

• Provide Trauma-informed care to all children and youth in support of parent support groups and individual therapy sessions.
• Work alongside Children’s Program Coordinator, Volunteers and Child and Family Therapists to assist in establishing playgroups and developmentally appropriate activities for children.
• Create an environment of learning, cooperation and safety.
• Communicate with parents upon on arrival and departure to ensure a warm handoff of their child.
• Maintain clean, organized and sanitized children’s areas.
• Support staff in calling parents for reminders of appointments.
• Meet, on an as-needed basis, with the mental health department and clinicians for support, training, and referral assistance.
• Maintain observations of children and enter up-to-date records and reports into spreadsheet and Empower database.

OTHER DUTIES WHEN NOT DOING CHILD WATCH DUTIES

• Assist in completing daycare applications or school referrals for families.
• Assist in planning, organizing and conducting Children’s Program events and other CORA related events under the guidance of the Children’s Program Coordinator.
• Collaborating with Clinicians and Supervisors regarding concerns caused by a child’s behavior or statements during a child watch session.
• Support mental health clinicians in administrative work such as running reports on client survey completions, reviewing files for file completion, sending reminders to staff on incomplete data.
• Others duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

WORK ENVIRONMENT/ PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS – you can add or delete here but for the most part these are standard.

MANDATED REPORTER STATUS

This position requires you to work with children, and your profession qualifies you as “mandated reporters” of child abuse or neglect, which is found in California Penal Code Section 11165.7. You are required to report suspected cases of abuse and neglect pursuant to California Penal Code Section 11166.5.
