Intake Specialist – Home Infusion
Location: Texarkana, Texas
Position: Full-Time Intake Specialist
Industry: Home Infusion Pharmacy
We are seeking an experienced Intake Specialist to join our home infusion team. The ideal candidate will have previous home infusion intake experience and understand the unique workflow involved in receiving, processing, and coordinating infusion referrals.
This position plays a critical role in ensuring patients receive timely access to their prescribed home infusion therapies while coordinating effectively with physicians, referral sources, insurance companies, patients, and internal clinical and pharmacy teams.
Key Responsibilities
  • Receive and process home infusion referrals from hospitals, physicians, clinics, and other healthcare providers.
  • Review referral information for completeness and accuracy, including patient demographics, insurance information, diagnosis, medication orders, and clinical documentation.
  • Coordinate insurance verification and benefits investigation for home infusion services and medications.
  • Obtain prior authorizations and assist with resolving insurance-related issues.
  • Communicate with referral sources, physicians, nurses, patients, caregivers, and insurance representatives to obtain required information and documentation.
  • Coordinate timely intake and admissions for new home infusion patients.
  • Enter and maintain accurate patient and referral information in pharmacy and/or infusion software systems.
  • Track referrals from initial receipt through approval, admission, and transition to ongoing service.
  • Identify missing or incomplete documentation and follow up promptly to prevent delays in patient care.
  • Collaborate closely with pharmacists, nurses, billing staff, and other members of the home infusion team.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and follow applicable HIPAA, payer, pharmacy, and company requirements.
  • Provide professional and compassionate customer service to patients and referral partners.
  • Assist with ongoing communication and coordination for existing patients when needed.
Qualifications
  • Previous home infusion intake experience is strongly preferred and highly valued.
  • Experience with home infusion referrals, benefits verification, prior authorizations, and insurance requirements.
  • Knowledge of infusion medications, therapies, and common home infusion processes is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of insurance terminology and payer requirements.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple referrals and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfortable communicating with healthcare providers, insurance companies, patients, and caregivers.
  • Proficiency with computers and electronic healthcare/pharmacy systems.
  • Ability to work independently while functioning effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • High level of professionalism, confidentiality, and patient-centered service.
