Job description

Saunders Nursing and Rehabilitation Center is a great nursing home facility to further develop your cooking experience! Currently there is an opeing for a part-time Cook. The schedule will include 8 hour days with starting times that will vary based on dietary staffing needs. The schedule will also include every other weekend.

Position responsibilities include:

1. Prepares food items for each meal following standardized recipes, meal counts, portion sizes, and special function items on a timely basis. Follow appropriate sanitary guidelines when cooking to prevent cross contamination of food and food spoilage.

2. Presents all food items in an appetizing manner as verified by Supervisor on duty.

3. Records temperatures for each meal on weekly temperature log sheet for residents’ food for dining room and tray line food. Check that all cold food items are less than 40°, hot foods are above 160° and coffee is at 140°.

4. Food temperatures that are not appropriate in temperature will be re-heated or chilled according to policy.

5. Follow all tray line procedures as outlined in the policy manual as demonstrated by the ability to work the tray line with attention to the accuracy of the contents of the tray and maintain speed necessary for the efficient operation of the tray line.

6. Responsible for prep work and pulling all food items as indicated for production following appropriate handling and storage procedures i.e. All frozen food items must be defrosted according to set dietary procedures. Label and date all food items pulled for production.

7. Follows and adheres to each resident’s diet and selective menu choices. Responsible for understanding all Saunders Center therapeutic diets.

8. Discard any food that is outdated in walk-ins and reach in freezer and refrigeration (FIFO).

9. Check out with Supervisor prior to clocking out for the shift to ensure that all work assignments are completed.

10. Adheres to department policy on a clean uniform, ID Badge, non-slip shoes, hair net and gloves.

Applicatn requirements include:

  1. Experience with cooking in a skilled nursing facility and demonstrated ability to follow corporate rescipes to ensure a consistent product.
  2. You must work well alone and as part of the Dietary Team providing high quality customer services for the benefit of residents and patients.
  3. Demonstrate self-control by maintaining professionalism in demanding situations.
  4. Be respectful and communicate issues and workable solutions with others.
  5. Must be able to up to 50 pounds.
