Project Accountant – Residential Home Builder

Who: A well-established residential home builder is seeking an experienced Project Accountant to support the financial operations of multiple residential construction projects.

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Project Accountant with residential construction experience to manage the financial aspects of multiple home building projects from start to finish. The ideal candidate will partner with Project Managers, Purchasing, and Operations to ensure accurate job costing, budgeting, financial reporting, and timely processing of project-related transactions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate job cost reporting for multiple residential construction projects.

  • Monitor project budgets, costs, and financial performance.

  • Process purchase orders, vendor invoices, and subcontractor payments.

  • Prepare monthly financial reports and project cost analyses.

  • Reconcile project accounts and resolve discrepancies.

  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance reporting.

  • Track change orders and project commitments.

  • Support month-end and year-end close processes.

  • Ensure compliance with company accounting policies and construction documentation requirements.

  • Collaborate with Construction Managers and Operations to maintain accurate financial records throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.

  • 3+ years of accounting experience in residential home building or residential construction.

  • Strong knowledge of job costing, budgeting, and construction accounting principles.

  • Experience with construction accounting software such as Sage 100 Contractor, Sage Intacct, Viewpoint, BuildTopia, MarkSystems, or similar ERP systems.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
