What are the common challenges faced by home-based virtual physical therapists, and how can they be addressed?

Home-based virtual physical therapists often face challenges such as ensuring patient engagement, accurately assessing movement without in-person contact, and managing technology issues. Overcoming these challenges involves using clear communication, leveraging high-quality video platforms, and providing detailed instructions and feedback. Building rapport remotely and encouraging patients to set up a safe, distraction-free space for sessions can also improve outcomes. Regular professional development on telehealth best practices helps therapists adapt to evolving technologies and patient needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Home-Based Virtual Physical Therapist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Home-Based Virtual Physical Therapist, you need a degree in physical therapy, state licensure, and expertise in exercise prescription and rehabilitation techniques. Familiarity with telehealth platforms, electronic health records (EHRs), and secure video conferencing tools is essential. Strong communication, motivational skills, and adaptability help build rapport with patients and effectively guide them remotely. These skills ensure quality care, maximize patient engagement, and maintain safety and compliance in a virtual environment.

What is home based virtual physical therapy?

Home based virtual physical therapy is a form of physical rehabilitation delivered remotely through video calls or specialized online platforms. Licensed physical therapists guide patients through exercises, stretches, and recovery plans without requiring in-person visits. This approach allows individuals to receive professional care from the comfort of their own home, making therapy more accessible and convenient. It is particularly beneficial for those with mobility challenges, busy schedules, or living in remote areas. Virtual sessions can be just as effective as in-person therapy for many conditions, provided the patient has a suitable environment and follows the therapist's instructions.

Overview:

Due to growth, we're hiring a full-time, licensed Physical Therapist (PT) to serve as a concierge-style consultant PT supporting employees at partner worksites through virtual consults and quarterly on-site visits.

As a Physical Therapist within this role, you'll work closely with approximately 20 client locations / companies primarily in the manufacturing industry. You'll support the employees of those companies by traveling to their location (4x per year) or through virtual wellness visits.

This role focuses on first-aid-level evaluations, early intervention guidance, and clinical triage, helping employees address musculoskeletal issues early and identifying when referral for medical care or formal PT is needed.

Are you ready for a break from direct patient care?

This is an opportunity for a PT who enjoys autonomy, relationship-building, and variety. You'll work closely with an executive support team and help grow a rapidly expanding service line.

Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate is personable, easygoing, and skilled at building trusting relationships with patients.

Caseload / Patient Population:

  • Support employees at worksites with ~50–250 employees, across a wide range of roles and backgrounds

  • Employees typically contact via text, followed by a structured consult process, including virtual and onsite follow-ups.

  • You will provide virtual physical therapy evaluations and make first-aid recommendations (not traditional ongoing treatment)

  • Refer employees (your “patients”) to local providers when formal treatment or medical care is needed

  • On-site visits emphasize relationship-building, informal consults, and employee engagement

Compensation:

  • Salary: $80,000–$90,000 (full-time, salaried)

  • This position includes an annual performance bonus.

Benefits

  • Travel expenses are reimbursed.

  • Certification support encouraged (occupational/direct-to-employer focus)

  • Health insurance

  • Retirement

  • Paid time off

Work Schedule:

  • The work schedule will include day time hours between 6:00am–6:00pm based on the needs of the companies that you support. A consistent work schedule will be mutually established.

  • When traveling to client sites, the schedule is typically 10:00am–3:00pm, to visit one client site per day

Travel Requirement:

  • You will travel to the company locations in the ballpark of 25%-33% of your time, with travel roughly 3 weeks out of each month.

  • You will travel a few times per year to New Orleans for company meetings.

  • Your travel schedule will be scheduled with your supervisor for the first year to meet the needs of your clients.

  • Work related travel expenses will be fully reimbursed.

Job Requirements:

  • Licensed Physical Therapist (PT) in the state of GA or a PT Compact State.

  • 3+ years of experience

  • Outpatient Orthopedics or Occupational Health experience is preferred.

  • Strong independent clinical judgment and triage (red/yellow flag awareness)

  • Comfortable engaging with employees at all levels, including leadership

  • Able to build strong relationships with patients

  • Willingness to travel and support multiple worksites

  • OCS a plus

  • Spanish-speaking is a plus

  • Full-time , 40+ hours per week, is required.
