Job description


Summary of Position:

The Colorist is responsible for developing, evaluating, and approving textile colors to ensure consistent and accurate reproduction across dye, pigment, latex and UV ink lots, materials, and production processes. This role manages lab dips, shade matching, and color standards while providing technical direction to the lab, and production teams. The Colorist ensures compliance with customer specifications, brand standards, and industry color tolerances.


Responsibilities/Duties

·        Match customer-supplied standards, digital targets, and brand colors with high precision.

·        Evaluate shade variations using spectrophotometers and visual assessments.

·        Work closely with production to maintain shade continuity across dye lots, machines, and substrates.

·        Troubleshoot shade issues such as metamerism, crocking, fastness failures, and off-shade production.

·        Maintain color libraries, physical standards, and digital color databases.

·        Establish and monitor color quality requirements for vendors and internal teams.

·        Ensure compliance with colorfastness standards (washing, rubbing, lightfastness, perspiration).

·        Prepare and present reports on color accuracy, trends, and performance.

·  Communicate directly with customers, designers, sales, and merchandisers regarding color

expectations and questions

·        Interpret customer color standards and translate them into technical color specifications.

 ·        Explain color feasibility, limitations, and potential risks based on fabric type or dye class.


Qualifications Required:

●      Bachelor’s degree in Textile Chemistry, Color Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field

(preferred).

●      3–6+ years of experience in textile color matching, dyeing, or color lab operations.

●      Strong background with dyes, pigments, and textile substrate behavior.

●      Strong verbal and written communication skills for reporting issues and collaborating with teams.
