Home Based Serious Game Developer information

What is a home based serious game developer?

Home Based Serious Game Developers are professionals who design, create, and program serious games—games intended for purposes beyond entertainment, such as education, training, or healthcare—while working remotely from their homes. They use their skills in game design, coding, and user experience to develop interactive applications that can teach, train, or solve real-world problems. Working from home allows them to collaborate with teams online, manage their own schedules, and contribute to projects for clients or organizations worldwide.

How does a home based serious game developer typically collaborate with remote teams and clients?

As a home-based serious game developer, effective collaboration with remote teams and clients is crucial. You'll often use tools like Slack, Zoom, and project management platforms (e.g., Trello or Jira) to communicate progress, share assets, and receive feedback. Regular virtual meetings and clear documentation are standard practices to ensure everyone is aligned, especially since serious games often require input from subject matter experts, designers, and educators. Building strong digital communication skills and being proactive in seeking clarification or proposing solutions will help you thrive in this distributed work environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a home based serious game developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Home Based Serious Game Developer, you need strong programming skills (such as C# or JavaScript), knowledge of game design principles, and experience with educational or training content. Familiarity with game engines like Unity or Unreal Engine, as well as version control systems like Git, is typically required, and certifications in game development or instructional design can be beneficial. Creativity, self-motivation, and effective remote communication skills help individuals excel in this independent and collaborative role. These skills ensure the creation of engaging, effective serious games that meet client objectives and learning outcomes while maintaining productivity in a remote setting.

Job description

The Athletics Department at Saint Michael’s College invites applications for the position of Associate Director of Athletics. The College seeks a highly organized and collaborative professional to oversee the operational and administrative functions that support Saint Michael’s varsity athletic programs. This role supervises administrative personnel, manages day-to-day operations, and works closely with coaches to support the needs of their programs and ensure they have the resources necessary for success. Responsibilities include processing deposits and payment requests, ordering equipment and supplies, and maintaining efficient administrative processes. The successful candidate will also coordinate student-athlete events and initiatives designed to enhance the overall student-athlete experience and foster a positive athletic environment.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Contribute to the short and long-term strategic planning of the Athletics Department and assist the Director of Athletics with decisions regarding facilities, equipment, personnel, and programs.
  • Directly oversee approximately seven varsity sports programs, including scheduling, monitoring, development, evaluation, and attendance at home contests.
  • Hire, mentor, supervise, and evaluate Head Coaches and assigned athletic administrative personnel.
  • Manage home game operations, including scheduling and supervising event managers, student workers, and game-day staff.
  • Administer departmental operating budgets, oversee select capital projects, and support coaches in managing program, fundraising, meal money, and gift budgets.
  • Reconcile gate receipts, fundraising deposits, and purchasing card transactions while ensuring accurate financial reporting and expense allocation.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to the Fundraising and Advancement Office and assist with grant‑writing initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the College Controller to prepare and submit the annual EADA Report and NCAA Membership Financial Report.
  • Manage student-athlete assessments, including end‑of‑season evaluations, and oversee events and registrations within the ARMS database.
  • Direct the Saint Michael’s Summer Camp Program, including supervision of Camp Directors and hiring of temporary camp and athletic training staff.
  • Coordinate the hiring, scheduling, and payment processes for game officials, including management of schedule changes and vendor registration requirements.
  • Lead student-athlete engagement initiatives, including First‑Year Student‑Athlete Orientation, diversity and inclusion programming, and Title IX education and awareness efforts.
  • Promote inclusion, belonging, gender equity, and Title IX compliance through advocacy, education, and participation in professional development opportunities.
  • Serve on departmental, institutional, conference, and NCAA committees; pursue leadership opportunities; and assist with departmental hiring processes.
  • Support the planning, coordination, and execution of departmental and student-athlete programs, activities, and special events.
