Job description

Job Summary 

We have an exciting opportunity for a project engineer with 2+ years experience to join our Virginia Beach, VA office for a variety of water-related assignments (e.g., Environmental, Civil, Water Resources), We are seeking a motivated, achievement-oriented individual who can help us fulfill our commitment to deliver client success on each and every project we undertake. This is an exciting opportunity to participate in stormwater, water and wastewater projects.

The  Project Engineer role performs a broad range of engineering tasks related to the analysis, planning, and design of water, wastewater, stormwater, and infrastructure projects. Working under general supervision of a professional engineer, this role contributes to technical work that involves planning, modeling, and design of treatment systems, preparing results, recommendations, plan sets, and other engineering deliverables. Participating in a project team from the initial study and conceptual design stages through to the construction of major water related infrastructure projects. Fieldwork and site visits from design through construction may be required.

Responsibilities 

  • Perform technical analyses to support identification and evaluation of sustainable water and wastewater management solutions. 
  • Prepare and review technical reports and documentation related to environmental engineering projects. 
  • Assist in the planning and design of environmental protection systems to support public and ecosystem health. 
  • Analyze scientific and engineering data and perform quality control checks to support regulatory compliance. 
  • Provide technical support for environmental projects, including modeling of treatment and conveyance systems, vendor coordination, and technical input for permitting and regulatory approvals.
  • Flexibility to adapt and execute various additional assignments based on evolving needs. 

Mentorship  

  • May provide mentorship, guidance, support, and knowledge-sharing to help less experienced team members develop their skills and grow within their roles. 

Skills and Competencies 

  • Working knowledge of environmental engineering principles and standard practices. 
    • Developing problemsolving and analytical skills. 
    • Ability to interpret scientific and engineering data with accuracy and attention to detail. 
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills. 

Experience 

  • Typically, a minimum of 2 years of related work experience in Environmental Engineering or related field. 
  • Typically certified in BC’s Subject Matter Specialist Framework, and progressing through the SMS competencies. 

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Proficiency in GIS, CAD/BIM, PCSWMM, HEC-RAS, PowerBI, and other software
  • Experience in field work including BMP inspections, water quality field monitoring and sampling.

Education 

  • A bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering or related field is required. 

Preferred Education

  • Advanced degree (Master’s) in Environmental, Civil Engineering,
  • EIT, with a goal to eventually acquire PE license in VA. 

Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee’s primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education.  These ranges may be modified in the future.  

Location A: $78,000 - $106,000
Location B: $85,000 - $116,000
Location C: $93,000 - $127,000
