Project Construction Manager

Role Overview

The Project Construction Manager (PCM) is responsible for overseeing all Construction and Commissioning activities assigned to MPWANGS for a dedicated project. This role represents the Construction & Commissioning function during project kickoff and engineering phases, and leads execution activities through construction, commissioning, and project turnover.

The PCM works closely with the MPWANGS project team and EPC partners to proactively manage technical, schedule, administrative, and commercial aspects of the project, ensuring safe, timely, and compliant execution. The role also focuses on enforcing contract requirements, maintaining personnel safety, preserving plant equipment and systems, and identifying and mitigating safety, quality, and contractual risks throughout project delivery.

The PCM reports directly to the Director of Construction Services and operationally to the MPWANGS Principal Project Manager.

Key Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates our core competencies: Action oriented, change champion, customer-focused, developing self & others, and ownership
  • Champion site safety and compliance, ensuring adherence to safety programs and timely resolution of PARs/NCRs to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Lead and manage site personnel, including the Site Manager, Quantity Auditor, Site Admin, and Commissioning Lead, while maintaining strong client relationships and escalating concerns as needed.
  • Support project mobilization and kickoff activities, ensuring Construction and Commissioning teams are aligned with contract requirements, scope, and deliverables.
  • Coordinate construction and commissioning execution, working with EPC and consortium partners to prioritize tasks, verify constructability, allocate resources, and resolve field issues.
  • Manage project schedules and resources, maintaining construction and commissioning timelines, supporting risk and opportunity assessments, and aligning with approved hour estimates.
  • Track and monitor project performance, including EPC productivity, labor capability, and site progress through reporting, site records, and field observations.
  • Prepare and deliver progress and KPI reports, including safety, quality, schedule, resource utilization, and financial performance, along with risk mitigation and recovery plans.
  • Maintain construction action lists and site documentation, ensuring alignment across teams and proper execution of administrative, logistical, and project control requirements.
  • Drive issue resolution and compliance, expediting closure of PAR/NCR/RCA processes and mitigating risks to avoid schedule delays and cost impacts.
  • Support claims and risk management activities, providing documentation and collaborating with Contract Management to proactively address potential issues.
  • Manage site financial performance, including cost forecasting, budget adherence, cost reduction initiatives, and final reporting for construction activities.
  • Support project closeout activities, ensuring punch list completion, coordinating handover to Warranty and PGS teams, and contributing to closeout presentations and lessons learned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering from an accredited institution, with 10+ years of relevant experience in Gas or Steam Turbine EPC projects, power generation, or major industrial EPC environments.
  • Completion of 30 hours of OSHA training/experience required.
  • Strong commitment to ethical standards, demonstrating integrity, accountability, and professionalism in all work activities.
  • Proficiency in interpreting technical documentation, including PFDs, P&IDs, heat balances, material balances, equipment specifications, O&M manuals, and control logic diagrams.
  • Applied technical expertise in supporting the safe installation, startup, and operation of power generation equipment.
  • Solid understanding of construction and commissioning practices for gasfired power plants and related systems.
  • Ability to perform field inspections and site walkdowns, including working in physically demanding conditions (e.g., climbing ladders/scaffolding, navigating confined or elevated spaces, and using PPE).
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 60%, including domestic and international travel, to support project site activities.
