Job Summary

As the Field Inspector, you will perform field inspections of cable and fiber placement, splicing, and telecommunications construction activities at customer job sites. You will monitor work performed by field personnel and contractors, document field conditions and results, and help ensure construction activities meet company, customer, safety, and quality requirements.

You will work closely with field personnel, contractors, subcontractors, government agencies, and internal project teams to support successful project execution through accurate inspections, documentation, and communication.

Key Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to)

  • Travel daily to assigned project locations and conduct field inspections.
  • Inspect telecommunications cable and fiber placement, splicing, and construction activities.
  • Inspect work performed by field personnel, contractors, and subcontractors to ensure compliance with project requirements and quality standards.
  • Document field inspection results, observations, deficiencies, and project progress.
  • Prepare accurate field reports and supporting documentation.
  • Attend field meetings with field personnel, government agencies, construction contractors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Communicate inspection findings, construction concerns, and potential issues to appropriate project personnel.
  • Operate and maintain field equipment and tools, including laptops, iPads, height sticks, cameras, and required PPE.
  • Assist with invoicing and management of subcontractor work orders as needed.
  • Identify unsafe working conditions and communicate concerns promptly.
  • Support compliance with company, customer, governmental, and safety requirements.
  • Perform additional responsibilities within functional scope based on business needs.

Required Qualifications

Education, Licensing, and Certifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to successfully complete required background check, drug screen, MVR, and physical.

Experience

  • Experience in telecommunications, fiber, cable, construction, field inspection, or a related industry preferred.
  • Experience working with field crews, contractors, or subcontractors is preferred.
  • Experience documenting field activities and inspection results is a plus.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify construction quality and safety issues.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to accurately document field conditions, observations, and inspection results.
  • Ability to use laptops, tablets, cameras, and other field technology.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with field personnel, contractors, subcontractors, government agencies, and internal teams.
  • Ability to work independently while managing daily assignments and changing priorities.
  • Ability to maintain visual and audible contact with crew members, personnel, vehicles, and equipment to ensure safe coordination of movement.
  • Ability to work safely around heavy equipment and machinery.
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including safety boots, safety glasses, hard hat, and other applicable PPE.

Preferred Qualifications

  • OSHA 30 Certification.
  • Previous telecommunications or fiber construction inspection experience.
  • Experience with cable/fiber placement or splicing activities.
  • Experience working with subcontractors and construction contractors.
  • Experience with construction documentation, work orders, or invoicing.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, squat, climb, kneel, push, pull, lift, and twist for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform work in awkward positions as required.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights.
  • Ability to work safely in live traffic zones and active construction environments.
  • Ability to maintain visual and audible awareness of personnel, vehicles, and heavy equipment.
  • Ability to wear required PPE for extended periods.
  • Must be able to successfully complete a pre-employment background check, drug screen, MVR check, and physical.
