About the Department

The Integrated Light Microscopy Facility (ILMF) is a supervised, user-based Shared Resource providing state-of-the-art microscopy imaging and analysis capabilities to University investigators


Job Summary

The job performs routine assignments related to scientific research projects. Ensures compliance of research activities with institutional, state, and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives and mandates. Analyzes possible solutions using standard procedures. Writes articles, reports and manuscripts. Assists in drafting presentations on research findings.
The Imaging Research Analyst I is responsible for all aspects of the Light Microscopy Core's Whole Slide Scanning Service in addition to collaborating with the core staff and users to ensure efficient, effective use of the facility and its equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of the whole slide scanning machinery.
  • Load, scan, and do quality control checks on user-prepared fluorescent and histology- stained slides.
  • Communicate with service users on the status of their scans, set up accounts for new service users and show them the slide drop off and pick up process.
  • Run image viewing and processing software, including OlyVIA, Case Viewer and QuPath software (no prior knowledge of this software is necessary) and teach users how to use image viewing software.
  • Assist Imaging Research Analyst II with operating, maintaining and troubleshooting other core microscopes.
  • Assist with teaching users to use image processing software ethically to present images and gather scientifically valid results in person or through technical writing.
  • Assist with record keeping including usage and publications.
  • Assist commercial vendors with demos of equipment and software
  • Maintains technical and administrative support for a research project.
  • Installs, sets up and performs experiments; interacting with students and other laboratory staff under the direction of the principal investigator.

  • Performs other related work as needed.


Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.


Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through < 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience:

  • Experience with processing, imaging and analyzing fluorescently labeled samples, preferably with commercial microscopes and open-source analysis software such as ImageJ/Fiji, cellpose, and/or QuPath.
  • Experience with fluorescence microscopy, including sample preparation, confocal imaging and / or live sample imaging.

Preferred Competencies

  • Strong communication skills, high degree of professionalism.
  • Commitment to providing a high level of service and working in a team environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once.
