Job description

Registered Nurse (RN)

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides compassionate, patient-centered care to individuals across the lifespan for children, adolescents, adults, and families. This role involves clinical assessment, crisis intervention, medication administration, psychoeducation, and multidisciplinary care planning. Operating through a trauma-informed lens, the RN helps patients and families navigate mental health challenges, stabilize acute conditions, and work toward holistic recovery.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive psychiatric and physical health nursing assessments for pediatric, adolescent, and adult patients upon admission and throughout treatment.
  • Identify risk factors, including self-harm, suicidal ideation, aggression, substance use, and medical comorbidities; implement appropriate monitoring protocols.
  • Formulate, evaluate, and update individualized nursing care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary treatment team.
  • Administer psychiatric and general medications as prescribed, monitoring for therapeutic efficacy, side effects, and potential adverse reactions.
  • De-escalate behavioral crises and acute distress using trauma-informed care principles and least-restrictive intervention techniques.
  • Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment for patients, visitors, and clinical staff in compliance with organizational and regulatory safety standards.
  • Conduct regular safety rounds and coordinate emergency response protocols when needed.
  • Facilitate family-centered care by involving parents, legal guardians, and support systems in care planning, progress updates, and discharge preparations.
  • Deliver age-appropriate psychoeducation to patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medication management, and coping strategies.
  • Guide families toward community support resources, outpatient mental health services, and crisis support networks.
  • Active participation in interdisciplinary clinical rounds, case consultations, and discharge planning meetings with psychiatrists, counselors, social workers, and case managers.
  • Document clinical evaluations, treatment responses, medication administration records (MAR), and critical incidents accurately within the Electronic Health Record (EHR) in accordance with clinical compliance standards.
  • Ensure seamless care transitions between inpatient, residential, outpatient, and community-based settings.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required.
  • Active, Registered Nurse (RN) license in the District of Columbia.
  • 2+ years of experience in a behavioral health care setting
  • Experience with Credible is a plus
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR certifications are required.
  • Experience providing services to an adult and/or child population with chronic mental illness
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Salary: $85,000-$92,000 annually, based on experience
