Who We Are: CAMBA is a community of staff, volunteers, clients, donors, neighbors and partners who work together to build an inclusive New York City, where all children and adults have access to the resources and supports they need to thrive.  We take a comprehensive approach by offering more than 180 integrated programs in:  Education & Youth Development, Family Support, Job Training & Employment Support Services, Health, Housing, and Legal Services. We reach more than 72,000 individuals and families each year at our 100 locations, including 10,000 youth.  CAMBA serves a diverse cross section of New Yorkers from new mothers in Brownsville to job seekers in the Rockaways. More than half of our clients are immigrants and refugees from around the globe. Over 85% of our families live in poverty, reflecting the challenges faced by nearly 1.7 million New Yorkers today.

CAMBA’s Ending the Epidemic Program aims to reduce transmission of HIV among high-risk populations in Brooklyn. The program will focus on men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender women of color will reach out to all high-risk populations in the borough, including the following: Black and Latino MSM; individuals engaging in transactional sex; persons with HIV-positive partners; and Black and Latino men and women in high prevalence neighborhoods. The program will include two components: an online targeted outreach campaign to reach out to clients and a new media campaign. Both seek to increase awareness of combination prevention – especially biomedical interventions like pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and postexposure prophylaxis (PEP) – and recruit clients into a multi-pronged intervention. The intervention will consist of the following components: online targeted outreach activities through engaging targeted individuals in risk assessment and a brief intervention; delivering Combination Prevention Education sessions addressing PrEP/PEP, consistent condom use, risk reduction practices, and the importance of regular STI and HIV testing; conducting linkages to services, including referrals to, other CAMBA HIV prevention programs, clinical providers of PrEP/PEP, in-person and at-home HIV testing, as well as social services; benefits navigation; and follow-up with clients who do not link to PrEP/PEP services

Position: Client Advocate

Reports To: Assistant Program Manager

Location: 1259 Flatbush Ave.

What The Client Advocate Does:

The incumbent will conduct both online and in-person outreach to recruit gay and nongay identified men who have sex with men (MSM) And Trans & Non-Binary People, for program services. The Client Advocate will connect clients to HIV prevention services within the CAMBA prevention program or outside prevention programs and social services. This work is carried out in support of the goals and mission of CAMBA.

What are the Qualifications for the Position:

  • Recruit clients into multi-pronged interventions consisting of sexual health and social services support
  • Recruit gay and non-gay identified young men who have sex with men (MSM) And Trans & Non-Binary People, of color for group and individual HIV/STD/Hepatitis C testing, PEP and PrEP services and risk reduction counseling.
  • Promote the program and deliver HIV Prevention Biomedical Interventions to clients through gay hook-up apps (e.g., Grindr, Jack’d, Hornet, Adam4Adam) social media. 
  • Assist program staff to facilitate intakes.
  • Create and post content for social marketing campaigns addressing HIV prevention and other health concerns for MSMoC.
  • Conduct outreach activities at high-risk venues to market the program to recruit new clients and re-engage former clients.
  • Develop action plans with clients enrolled in navigation or support services
  • Follow-up with clients and with referral organizations regarding client contact and progress with referral organization.
  • In collaboration with program staff, work with clients to break through barriers to client goals and to assist clients in advocating for themselves and in moving toward self-sufficiency.
  • Contact clients via telephone, mail and/or face-to-face home and office visits to ensure adherence to program, and document via progress notes.
  • Escort clients to appointments (educational, medical, social service, etc.).
  • Provide all required information for weekly/monthly/quarterly/annual reports.
  • Create and maintain client files and make copies of all client documents.
  • Prescreen clients over the telephone for eligibility and may schedule intake appointments. Assist clients in completing all CAMBA intake applications and forms.
  • Schedule appointments for client with referral organizations.
  • Input client data and client progress information into automated database.
  • Participate in evaluation activities, such as conducting surveys with support group and event participants.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education/Experience Required:

Education, Licenses and/or Certifications Required:

  • Sufficient education (English-speaking, -reading, -writing, & math abilities) to comprehend oral and written information and to assist callers and visitors and staff.

 Minimum Experiences and Skills Required:   

  • Two (2) years of relevant experience, preferably in a mid-sized (250+ employees) organization.
  • Good written & verbal communication.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge about, understanding of, and ability to work closely with, persons with HIV/AIDS and related issues.
  • Experience and/or comfort conducting online outreach via social media and dating/”hook-up” apps and websites.
  • Required to work occasional evenings/weekend days

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish preferred.

Compensation: -43,000 annually
When salary ranges are listed, the range would represent the low and high end for the applicable position & program. The salary offered would be based on various factors unique to each program and candidate. This includes but is not limited to experience, education, budget and/or program size, internal equity, skills and other factors that may be required for the position and organization.

 

Status: -Full-time (35 hours per week)
