The impact you will make:
Agios Pharmaceuticals is searching for a dynamic Payer MSL (Medical Science Liaison) to join our growing Medical Affairs team. We want someone who cares about this important work, and who's driven to connect to our mission of helping patient communities. The MSL will be responsible providing the scientific content relevant to payers under the FDAMA permitted interactions. Currently covering hemolytic anemias, including, thalassemia, sickle cell disease (SCD), Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency (PK Def) and future plans include myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) . The MSL will conduct scientific exchange with payers in supporting Global Medical Affairs and Market access goals and objectives. The MSL will play a critical role in managing investigator & company sponsored studies. The MSL will be their own territory manager in supporting payers and market access counterparts within appropriate legal/compliance guardrails.
What you will do:
  • Maintain clinical, scientific, and technical expertise in relevant molecule and disease state areas.
  • In collaboration with Payer MSL director, and complementing Market access team (DNA, PSM, ACE) to develop engagement plans - identify, develop, and maintain long-term collaborative relationships with accounts within assigned region and payer segment. Participate in medical & scientific exchanges with the medical/scientific community including presenting scientific data to payer and those in control of access to medications.
  • Focus on individual payer segments (commercial, Medicaid, managed Medicaid) by working with the DNA(s) to look at each payer and develop a strategy to maximize access and minimize patient and prescriber roadblocks to Agios products.
  • Work with the PSM team on payer rejections. Utilizing Medical Information Request from prescribers to provide data that could improve a prior authorization request.
  • Work with contracted specialty pharmacies to provide needed education around relevant medications and disease states.
  • Provide insights back to the Market Access team around what could improve access to Agios products for patients
  • Facilitate company sponsored and investigator sponsored trials (ISTs) where appropriate. Provide medical/clinical teams with feedback and insights from interactions with investigators, and payers.
  • Represent the company at medical meetings through Medical Affairs' Scientific Booth coverage and other related activities.
  • Adhere to corporate SOPs and ensure vigilant compliance with relevant legal and regulatory guidelines governing scientific interactions with physicians and healthcare professionals across all activities, including those related to clinical trials, scientific interactions with internal and external groups, and responses to unsolicited requests for medical/scientific information.
  • Embrace and demonstrate the Agios culture of absolute integrity, focused execution, incisive leadership, collaborative spirit and pursuit of excellence and innovation.

What you bring:
  • Industry experience necessary with a minimum of 3 year of relevant hematology clinical/research/industry experience in a clinic setting or rare diseases. Experience in dealing with market access issues is preferred (either pharmaceutical or payer side). P&T experience is a plus.
  • Both virtual or in-person meetings are facilitated as needed and appropriate. Travel requirement will be up to 50% at times with the ability to travel frequently with overnight stays (e.g., OL meetings, internal Agios meetings, medical meetings and congresses, training), global travel may be required.
  • Exhibits the highest level of scientific and clinical acumen with excellent communication and networking skills
  • Team-minded with ability to be innovative and flexible in a fast-paced and changing environment
  • Understanding of, and experience with, regulatory framework applicable to interactions with health care providers (HCPs), payers, advocacy and other business partners.
  • An advanced clinical degree (e.g. PharmD, PhD, or MD - other doctoral degrees may be considered) is strongly preferred. MBA or business analytics skill is a plus.

Location Specific - Field/Remote: This is a remote based field position. Employees in field roles must reside within their designated territory. Regular conversations with manager are encouraged to ensure alignment on in-person presence/expectations.   • The current base salary range for this position is expected to be between $153,541 and $230,312 annualized; final salary will be determined based on various factors including, but not limited to, years of relevant experience, job knowledge, skills and proficiency, degree/education, and internal comparators.
