Job description

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accounting Manager to join our Accounting team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting principles, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines. This role requires a thorough understanding of accounting processes and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and compliance.

This position is ideally based in our Bannockburn, IL office (hybrid). We are unable to offer work sponsorship for this role.

The Buyer's Edge Platform Fresh Division is an entity comprised of Fresh Concepts, Produce Alliance, Fresh Alliance & Fresh Services with over 35 years of produce management solutions. The Fresh Division provides fresh produce category management services, procurement and contracting, national distribution, freight management, k-12 solutions, technology services, and food safety assurance to food service clients across North America, the Caribbean and beyond. The Fresh Division has a national footprint of over 125+ industry leading distributors in North America, and partnerships with the most premier grower shippers.

Your impact:

  • Management Responsibilities:
    • Collaborate with, oversee and help develop junior accounting professionals within the Fresh team.
    • Review team member work product.
    • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • General Accounting:
    • Prepare and review journal entries and account reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
    • Maintain and improve processes to support monthly close activities and internal controls.
  • Financial Reporting:
    • Support the Controller in the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with US GAAP.
    • Perform financial statement fluctuation/variance analyses.
  • Audit & Compliance:
    • Support the consolidated audit, through the preparation/review and compilation/submission of auditor requests.
    • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, regulatory requirements and internal controls.
  • Process Improvement:
    • Drive process improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of accounting operations.
    • Document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
    • Collaborate on cross-functional initiatives to improve financial processes and systems.

About you:

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite).
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and financial modeling.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5 to 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisor experience.
  • Experience in public accounting or a similar industry is a plus.
