Job description

Taft Junior College was established on August 30, 1922 as part of the Taft Union High School District. Classes were first held on the high school campus. The school title officially became Taft College on July 1, 1954, and in September of 1956 a separate campus opened in the current location at 29 Cougar Court adjacent to the high school. The West Kern Community College District was later formed and is a single-college-district under the guidance of a five-member Board of Trustees. With strong leadership, Taft College offers a robust academic program for its students and is one of the finest small colleges around!

Work Study Responsibilities:

The Student Ambassador will perform the following essential functions:

Supports student life and mental wellness

  • 20% - Events: supports the outreach supervisor with plans, coordination, and execution of small to large-scale outreach, recruitment and retention events. Helps with the coordination of student success and goal completion activities aligned with college and district enrollment management and student success initiatives.
  • 20% - Outreach: assist with planning and coordinating of on-campus visitation programs for prospective students; Serves as a liaison to K-12, high school and community partners to provide educational enrichment opportunities; conducts Taft College recruitment related presentations to the community, high school students and Taft students.
    40% - Student engagement/retention - serves as a student ambassador, mentor, student life liaison. Make student wellness calls. Assists with social media for recruitment and retention purposes.
  • 10% - Student services: Assists prospective and current students in the enrollment process, financial aid, work-study opportunities, course registration; Assists with referrals to other related services as needed; Assists with matriculation, enrollment and retention of special populations.
  • 10%- Provide clerical support to student services. Enter prospective student data. Work with computers, answer phones, perform other duties as assigned
