Job description

Youth Services Staff are responsible for the safe supervision of children and implementation of activities in the programs of the Youth Services Department. This may include but is not limited to the After School Program, Study Central, JCAtion Days, enrichment and weekend programming.  They are directly supervised by the Youth Services director.

Youth Services Staff are responsible for the safe supervision of children and implementation of activities in the programs of the Youth Services Department. This may include but is not limited to the After School Program, Study Central, JCAtion Days, enrichment and weekend programming. They are directly supervised by the Youth Services director.

Essential Functions
  1. To ensure the well-being of each child in the program by providing the adequate supervision and support necessary for their safety and educational and emotional development.
  2. To build positive relationships with students and parents.
  3. To communicate professionally and effectively with participants, co-workers, and parents (as needed).
  4. To plan and lead recreational games and crafts, assist students with homework, and facilitate enrichment activities.
  5. To be punctual and dependable.
  6. To attend all required staff and in-service meetings throughout the year.
  7. To meet all applicable requirements by Department of Children and Families and other agencies and authorities.
  8. To participate as part of a team in cooperative manner with all co-workers; know your immediate supervisor and respond to their direction in a willing manner; do your fair share.
  9. To provide an environment in which Jewish awareness and appreciation of Jewish culture is fostered.
  10. To help enforce the Youth Services Departmental policies such as sick policies, carpool procedures, kosher policy, swimming safety, transportation policies, etc.
  11. Always display a positive and professional attitude towards our program when engaging in conversation with parents and members outside of our department.
  12. To display knowledge and understanding of the developmental levels of the age group with whom you are working.
  13. Reacting to change productively, handling other essential tasks as necessary and general responsibilities of all JCA Staff which may include participation in staff meetings, greeting parents and members, participation in programs or events as required or other staff team functions.
  14. To keep the Youth Services area safe, clean and aesthetically pleasing.
  15. Show up on time in appropriate dress ready to work see Youth Services Department dress code.
Education and/or Experience

Minimum academic experience is currently senior high school year; college experienced desired. Prior experience working with children not a requirement but strongly preferred i.e. babysitting.

Language Skills

Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, administration, and children participating in the youth services programs of the JCA.

Ability to use grammar & punctuation.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. May need to make decisions in emergency situations

Other Skills and Abilities

PC literate. Strong interpersonal skills and flexibility.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is required to stand and walk.

Work Environment

The working conditions are primarily a general office setting. The noise level is usually quiet.
