As a high school band director, your job is to teach students how to practice and perform music. In this role, you may monitor each performance of the school orchestra, teach the skills needed for special events like marching performances, and otherwise ensure each student meets the qualifications to play at a professional or semi-professional level. High school band teachers teach many different instruments, so flexibility and the ability to switch between different sets of knowledge quickly is essential to success. Fulfilling the duties and responsibilities of a high school band director requires teaching skills, communication skills, excellent hearing, and the ability to adjust your schedule as needed to oversee performances and other school activities.
