Summary Description: The Middle School Assistant Principal is a critical position that supports the Middle School Principal in providing a school setting that partners with families to inspire academic curiosity, Christ-like character and Christian leadership grounded in Biblical truth. This position joins the Middle School Principal in leading and supporting the Middle School faculty and staff in the delivery of instruction that produces students who live with purpose and lead with intent for God's glory alone.

Essential Functions

Administrative Support

  • Designee of the Middle School Principal
  • Assist the Middle School Principal in maintaining a collaborative learning community
  • Assist Middle School Principal in Essential Expectations of Middle School Faculty and Staff Accountability
  • Collaborate with the Middle School Principal in supporting the professional development goals for the school
  • Meet and confer with students, parents, faculty and staff
  • Assist in the interviewing process

Instructional Management

  • Liaison for the middle school to the Student Academic Support programย 
  • Manage and oversee the House program in the middle school
  • Assist the Middle School Principal in developing and maintaining an effective educational program consistent with State and Federal guidelines and the mission, policies and goals of the School
  • Develop and provide oversight of the middle school curriculum and regularly review and research best practices
  • Provide instructional coaching with emphasis on teaching and learning environment and pedagogy.ย 
  • Prepare final exam and other tests (ERB) logistics with SAS Department
  • Collaborate with the school nurse, teachers, parents, and counselors regarding student rebound plans
  • Explain and interpret the schoolโ€™s curriculum / instructional goals and objectives to teachers, parents, students
  • Oversee the placement of studentโ€™s academic classes as well as their elective selections.ย 
  • Observe classes frequently and provide consistent meaningful feedback

Work Environment

  • Help conduct safety drills; respond to and supervise fire drills, lockdowns, and severe weather alerts pertinent to the Middle School
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of all school rules, policies and expectations, and enforcement.
  • Collaborate with Middle School Principal in order to maintain a safe learning environment
  • Make a constructive effort to protect all students from conduct detriment to learning, health or safety

Personnel Management

  • Collaborate with the Middle School Principal in maintaining and supporting Middle School faculty/staff culture
  • Support faculty and staff academically, spiritually and emotionally
  • Assist in the collaboration, support and accountability of Department Chairs/Grade Level Coordinators in their leadership roles
  • Assist in evaluation of teachers by setting expectations, collecting data, and providing feedback on a regular basis
  • Supervise teachers and departments as assigned by the principal
  • Assist teachers in developing effective learning/teaching strategies, Lesson plans, assessments and classroom management strategies

Student Management

  • Assist in the planning and execution of the orientation of new and returning students, making sure expectations, systems, rules and protocols are understood
  • Ensure student safety at all times and manage all potential risks
  • Leads and supports the Dean of Students in administering a safe and structured learning environment
  • Supervise the Dean of Students as his/her handling ofย disciplinary and behavioral issues in the middle school

School/Community Relations

  • Assist in leading in spiritual growth opportunities within the school
  • Support sponsors of Student Council, Honors Societies and Clubs
  • Attend performances, middle school events, athletic competitions and administrative functions, so as to maintain presence on campus and gain visibility as the Middle School Assistant Principal
  • Collaborate with Middle School Principal to build a positive culture throughout the middle school inclusive of staff, students and parents
  • Assist in communication with faculty and staff, parents and students
  • Assist in the planning of Middle School student and parent events
  • Assist with parent events and Open Houses.

Qualifications

Spiritual

  • Have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ demonstrating evidence of continual spiritual growth
  • Belief and a strong passion for the mission of Fellowship Christian School

Education & Experience

  • Masterโ€™s Degree required in education administration or similar degree
  • Three years of leadership experience preferred
  • Extensive experience working with administrative responsibilities

  • Maintain a strict code of confidentiality in conversations with personnel, students and families
  • Must have the ability to work in a school environment by successfully passing the school mandated background check process and Ministry Safe training
  • Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, Internet Search; knowledge of RenWeb software a plus
  • Positive appearance, attitude and presentation with a strict sense of confidentiality
  • Possess a valid state driverโ€™s license
  • Regular and consistent attendance and punctuality is required and a condition of employment

Physical

  • Regularly required to listen, physically direct, and speak
  • Position requiring mobility, including bending, lifting (up to 25 lbs.), pushing, walking
  • Use of hands and fingers to manipulate office equipment, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms
