REPORTS TO:                 Chief Custodian

Performs the fireman duties assigned by the Chief Custodian or Administrator; provides services which will offer clean, comfortable, healthful, safe, and attractive buildings for students and staff.  Assumes a major responsibility for the operation and maintenance of heating system. 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
 


The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
  • Physical ability to perform essential functions.  The employee must be able to lift, push and/or move up to 50 pounds.  This job requires repetitive stooping, twisting and bending. He/she must also be able to work in extreme temperatures and/or weather conditions.
  • Regular attendance is an essential requirement of this position.
  • Neat and clean appearance.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with others.
  • Willingness to accept additional responsibilities as needed, as well as determine and manage priorities with minimal guidance.
  • Ability to get along with adults and students.
  • Good moral character, honest, dependable and courteous.
  • Ability to follow instructions and procedures; must possess quality of inquiring before taking action on items with which one is not familiar.
  • Ability to read basic operating instructions, write reports and maintain records.
  • Use of technology as it relates to the position (email, data management, work order software, school dude, etc.)
  • A valid driver's license is desirable
  • Acceptable Criminal Background Report and no entries on Child Abuse Registry.
  • Must hold a custodian-fireman certificate (90 hours), must be in the process of obtaining it, or a commitment should be made to obtain custodian-fireman's certificate within a specified time limit.
  • Prefer two years of successful experience as a custodian.
  • Must be able to work beyond regular hours when required to see that various activities and custodial assignments are properly handled.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities related to the District.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  1. Operates boilers, burners, ventilation and mechanical equipment.
  2. Operates grounds equipment including mowers and grass trimmers
  3. Responsible for assisting with snow removal as needed..
  4. Assist in all maintenance and minor repair of mechanical equipment and furniture in the building including replacement of small window glass.
  5. Assists in all cleaning as outlined in custodian's position guide.
  6. Performs minor maintenance repairs to building facilities and replacement of small window glass
  7. Respond to emergency requests at any time, such a snow removal, flooding conditions (burst pipe), etc.
  8. Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
  9. Other related duties as assigned, including but not limited to custodian.


ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL:
 

This position in the Colonial School District is considered an Essential Personnel position.  Essential Personnel are required to be at work for emergencies during and outside of the scheduled workday, including weekends and holidays for duties including but not limited to: 

  • Snow removal
  • Flooding in the building(s)
  • Response to alarms
  • Water damage after a storm

If, for some reason, the district closes or opens on an altered schedule, regardless of the message communicated by the District, you are expected to report to work on time or at the time stated by your supervisor.

STANDARD REQUIREMENTS:

  • Satisfactory Criminal Background Check must be less than 1 year old
  • DE Child Protection Registry Report
  • TB Test must be less than 1 year old
  • Mandatory Direct Deposit of paycheck
  • Signed Social Security card-required by State of Delaware for payroll purposes; you will be able to upload a copy directly into your Onboarding Packet
  • I-9 Form with appropriate forms of identification
