Job description

IMEG is hiring a Plumbing Project Designer in Seattle, Washington, to lead plumbing and fire protection design efforts for moderate complexity projects and support larger, high-complexity project delivery in collaboration with senior staff. In this role, you will work closely with engineers and consultants to provide engineering solutions and client guidance, with responsibilities spanning analysis, design, and implementation oversight of building systems. You'll also support project budgets, mentor team members, and collaborate across functions to meet project goals and client expectations.
Principal Responsibilities
• Lead plumbing and fire protection system analysis and design efforts for moderate complexity projects
• Create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations using engineering software and tools in accordance with code requirements and IMEG standards
• Partner with clients to understand project needs, gather requirements, communicate technical information, and maintain strong professional relationships
• Support consulting project execution through planning, budgeting, and scheduling to meet deadlines and objectives
• Document design decisions, client instructions, and project progress, including percent complete and fee expended
• Analyze engineering challenges and develop practical, efficient solutions in collaboration with senior engineers and consultants
• Perform in-process reviews of plumbing and fire protection designs, calculations, and specifications while applying IMEG quality control processes
• Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in plumbing engineering, and contribute to research and innovation efforts
• Prioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work by identifying and mitigating potential risks associated with plumbing systems
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions that align with project goals
• Identify potential project issues and seek guidance from the Project Manager as needed
• Support projects through bidding and construction administration phases
Required Qualifications and Skills
• Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent required
• Engineering In Training (EIT) Certification preferred
• ASPE Certified Plumbing Design preferred
• 5 years of experience minimum required, 6 preferred, in the building design consulting industry OR
• Associates degree, or certificate, in Building Information Modeling (BIM) or Engineering preferred
• ASPE Certified Plumbing Design preferred
• 9 years of experience minimum required, 10 preferred, in the building design consulting or construction industry
• Expertise in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
• Strong technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in thermodynamics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics as they relate to plumbing and fire protection design for buildings
• Strong training and mentoring skills
• Expertise in industry standard engineering software and tools.
• Mastery of code calculations for domestic water, waste, and vent systems.
• Advanced knowledge of specialty plumbing systems (medical gas, laboratory gas, high rise, rainwater/grey water systems) as applicable based on team market focus.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
• Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
• Proficiency in the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) software
• Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Ability to travel up to 15% with occasional overnight stays

Locations available:

State of Washington Salary Range: $86,000.00-$120,000.00. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay will be based on several factors including experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant. Other rewards may include annual bonuses and stock ownership options.
