OverviewThe Wellness Performance Director leads the complete fitness, health and wellness experience at an assigned YMCA center. This role connects people to the right resources, coaching and programs; builds an engaged and accountable team; strengthens retention; and ensures members receive consistent support throughout their wellness journey. The Director oversees personal training, partner and small group training, wellness coaching, Jump Starts and onboarding, specialty wellness programs, fitness-floor engagement, budgets, revenue growth, safety and community partnerships.Key ResponsibilitiesMember Journey and Retention: Create clear pathways from onboarding through long-term engagement; ensure timely follow-up, progress check-ins, referrals and re-engagement of at-risk members.Team Leadership: Recruit, train, supervise, coach and evaluate trainers, wellness attendants, wellness coaches and assigned staff while building professional development and accountability.Program Growth: Lead and improve personal training, partner training, small group training, wellness coaching, active aging, youth performance, chronic-condition support and specialty wellness offerings.Engagement and Conversion: Manage Jump Starts, referrals, consultations, conversions, renewals and retention through relationship-based, consultative service rather than high-pressure sales.Financial Performance: Develop and manage budgets, forecasts, staffing, pricing, revenue, expenses, margins and participation goals; identify gaps and implement corrective action.Operational Excellence and Safety: Maintain a visible presence, monitor service quality and facility readiness, ensure accurate scheduling and documentation, and uphold YMCA safety, confidentiality, certification and abuse-prevention standards.Collaboration and Community Impact: Partner with Membership, Group Exercise, Aquatics, Operations, Marketing, Physical Therapy and community organizations to deliver a connected, whole-person wellness experience.Mission and Culture: Model Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility; create an inclusive environment; support the Annual Campaign; and balance belonging, accountability and measurable results.Ensures the safety and well-being of consumers by maintaining professional boundaries, completing required abuse risk management training, following procedures for high-risk activities and supervision, reporting suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations, and adhering to mandated abuse reporting requirements.Serve as a leader in branch fundraising activities for the Annual Support Campaign, including the solicitation of funds to support financial assistance, military family initiatives, community outreach, and branch goals and objectives.Performs other duties as assigned.Performance AccountabilityThe Director maintains dashboards and monthly reporting for revenue, expenses, participation, sessions, Jump Starts, leads, conversion, retention, staffing utilization, member feedback and program outcomes. The role partners with the Association Executive Director, on strategy, budget planning, priorities, risks and corrective action. It means helping people feel known, supported and confident that they have a trusted team walking with them throughout their fitness, health and wellness journey.QualificationsBachelors degree in a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.Three or more years of progressive leadership experience in fitness, wellness, recreation, healthcare integration, membership engagement or a related field.Experience supervising staff, managing budgets, growing programs and using data to improve results.Nationally recognized personal training, wellness coaching or related credential preferred.Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification or ability to obtain within the required timeframe.Strong communication, relationship-building, organization, sales-coaching and problem-solving skills.Ability to work a flexible schedule and commitment to the YMCA mission, core values, inclusion and community service.Physical and Work EnvironmentAbility to move throughout the facility, remain actively engaged in wellness spaces, support basic fitness activities, safely move equipment and use standard technology and reporting systems.
