Job description

We are seeking a skilled and passionate Performance Auto Technician to join our team. This role focuses on modifying, upgrading, and tuning high-performance Subaru platforms, specifically working with Boxer engines (EJ and FA series) and All-Wheel Drive systems. The ideal candidate will combine traditional mechanical mastery with modern electronic expertise to deliver reliable, high-horsepower street and track builds.

Key Responsibilities

  • Performance Bolt-On Installation: Install aftermarket turbochargers, front-mount intercoolers, custom exhaust systems, and high-flow fuel systems.
  • ECU Tuning & Calibration: Knowledge to assist programming and fine-tune factory engines utilizing platforms like COBB Accessport, and Haltech, or Motec systems.
  • AWD Chassis & Suspension Setup: Install and corner-balance coilovers, upgrade sway bars, and bushings to optimize handling for street, track, or rally builds.
  • Drivetrain Upgrades: Install performance clutches, short-throw shifters, and heavy-duty axles to manage increased power.
  • Specialized Subaru Maintenance: Execute critical preventative maintenance specific to the platform, including timing belt/chain services, mechanical diagnostics, and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Dyno Testing: Operate an All-Wheel Drive (AWD) dynamometer to safely load, strap down, and unload vehicles during the tuning process.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Platform Expertise: Minimum of 3-5 years of dedicated experience diagnosing, repairing, and modifying EJ and FA Subaru Boxer engines.
  • Tuning & Diagnostics: Proficient in data logging, interpreting air/fuel ratios, identifying knock, and a high level of attention to detail.
  • Tool & Equipment Proficiency: Experience using hand tools, multimeter, diagnostic equipment, wheel/ tire machines, and using aftermarket tuners for further diagnostics
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical anomalies common in heavily modified vehicles.
  • Tools: Must have your own tools and tool cart/ box.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certifications: AAS Automotive Technician
  • Training: Automotive training certification or specialized aftermarket training credentials.
  • Fabrication: Basic TIG/MIG welding skills for minor exhaust or bracket modifications are a major plus.
