Job description

Summer Camp Instructor: Digital Arts, Technology & STEM
Are you passionate about STEM?
Hendrix College, in conjunction with Black Rocket Productions, is seeking enthusiastic, motivated and talented individuals to work as a Lead Instructor to help teach exciting classes based in Minecraft, Roblox, video game design, and digital arts!
This is a perfect job for K12 certified classroom teachers with summers off who want to teach children various types of new technology. Lead Instructors are adults who are responsible for the well-being and education of the students. A lead instructor may have either a degree/experience in education or significant experience in one of the content areas. They must have a strong understanding of the course concepts being taught as well as any techniques and software involved. Classroom management skills are preferred.
Upon completion of the Black Rocket training program, instructors must demonstrate competency in the core concepts and software used. In addition to teaching responsibilities, lead instructors are also responsible for the supervision of staff, equipment management, and enforcement of site policies. Training begins in spring 2026. This is a seasonal position. Experience with technology preferred, but not required. Training is provided.
Get paid to build your resume and have a ton of fun! Training is paid and mostly online with some on site at Hendrix College. Each new hire will attend an online training program to learn the curriculum and the Black Rocket approach. Training begins in May 2026 (open now!).
The position is full day (8:30 am - 4:30 pm), Monday-Friday for the weeks of July 6th, July 20th, July 27th, and August 3rd.
Experience and Skills
General Requirements:
  • Located within commuting distance of Hendrix College in Conway, AR, and have a reliable form of transportation
  • Experience with children in an educational setting preferred but not required
  • Strong technology skills are preferred, such as 3D modeling, coding, game creation or design, animation, robotics, modifying games, video editing, competitive gaming, significant knowledge of Minecraft or Roblox, etc.
  • Available to complete online training, PAID (Train at your own pace.)
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States. We are unable to offer accommodations or work sponsorship.
  • Must be available to work during the four (4) weeks listed above

Lead Instructor Requirements:
  • 21 years of age or older preferred, 18 years of age required
  • College graduates with a degree in education, digital arts, computer science, information technology or related fields and/or significant relevant work experience are ideal. College seniors with experience with groups of kids are also encouraged to apply.
  • Experience teaching kids is not required, but the ideal candidate will have some experience with kids in a formal or informal setting (classroom, volunteering, childcare, tutoring, coaching, etc.)
  • Ability to facilitate a class of up to 20 kids with a co-teacher in a technology setting
Duties of our Lead Instructors include, but are not limited to:
  1. Prepare adequately by reviewing and internalizing the prepared curricula for the courses to be taught.
  2. Prepare for and deliver multiple rotations of BRP curriculum per day to groups of up to 20 campers.
  3. Familiarize oneself with the necessary software in order to educate and utilize in the classroom.
  4. Implement the curriculum as written, adapting it as needed to improve the camper experience or accommodate individual campers.
  5. Provide leadership, energy and camp spirit, constantly assessing group dynamics and the needs of individual campers.
  6. Supervise Assistant Instructors working in your program area and inspire them to become excellent instructors.
  7. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in and outside the classroom.

Assistant Instructor Requirements:
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Able to commit to a full week of work, M-F, approximately 8:30 - 4:30.
  • College students studying education, computer science, digital arts, information technology, or in similar fields are encouraged to apply.
  • Those with strong tech or digital arts and troubleshooting skills will be most successful in this position
  • Experience with kids in a formal or informal setting is a plus, such as babysitting, volunteering, coaching, tutoring, etc.

Other Requirements:
  • Hendrix College requires a background check for this position.
  • Assistant Instructors must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Lead Instructors must be 21 years of age or older.

Job Benefits
This is a summer seasonal position. The hourly pay rate is as follows:
  • Lead Instructor - $25 per hour
  • Assistant Instructor - A scale of $12 to $15 per hour

Training time is compensated for each position.
