The City of Hemet, tucked in a valley surrounded by the Santa Rosa Hills and the San Jacinto Mountains, is embarking on a journey of revitalization and growth. Founded in 1910, the City of Hemet, with a population of approximately 80,000, is located in western Riverside County. Hemet was originally an agricultural community, but later became known as a retirement destination. In the early 1990's Hemet experienced a construction boom which brought new residential neighborhoods, larger families, and new commercial, retail, and office development. With this growth, Hemet began its transition from a retirement and snowbird haven to a modern, diverse suburban community.
Hemet is home to unique recreational amenities. Diamond Valley Lake, Southern California's largest freshwater reservoir built by the Metropolitan Water District, features hiking, boating, and world class fishing year round. Every spring, Ramona, the United States' longest running outdoor play, attracts thousands of visitors to the valley.
With access to Hemet from CA 74, CA 79, and Interstates 215, 15, and 10, Hemet is ideally located to enjoy the four sport California day, where you can surf in the morning, snowboard midday, mountain bike in the afternoon, and finish with a round of golf or a game of tennis. Los Angeles and San Diego are just over an hour away. The beauty of the desert and spa lifestyle of Palm Springs is yours within 45 minutes.
The City
The City of Hemet is a full-service City with its own Police and Fire Departments, as well as Water Utility. The City of Hemet follows a Council-Manager form of government.
