Position Summary

Assist skilled craftsperson(s) by performing supportive duties as directed and will work under immediate supervision. The level and degree of job responsibilities and requirements vary depending on months of experience and assigned job step.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

ย ย  ย Learn to read specifications or blueprints to determine the locations, quantities, or sizes of material required.ย 
ย ย  ย Assist skilled craftsmanf to fabricate metal parts, such as steel frames, columns, beams, or girders, according to blueprints or instructions from supervisors.
ย ย  ย Assist with unloading and positioning prefabricated steel units for hoisting; hoists steel beams, girders, or columns into place, using cranes or signaling hoisting equipment operators to lift and position structural steel members.
ย ย  ย Learn to verify vertical and horizontal alignment of structural steel members, using plumb bobs, laser equipment, transits, or levels.
ย ย  ย Cuts, bends, or welds steel pieces, using metal shears, torches, or welding equipment.
ย ย  ย Assemble hoisting equipment or riggings, such as cables, pulleys, or hooks, to move heavy equipment or materials.

Qualifications

ย ย  ย May require a high school diploma or its equivalent with previous years of experience in the field or in a related area.
ย ย  ย Must possess knowledge skills and abilities for position
ย ย  ย Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with management/supervision
