About Premier Sport Psychology

Premier Sport Psychology is a contract-based sport and performance psychology practice serving professional athletes, collegiate programs, corporate organizations, and individual clients across the Twin Cities and beyond. Our reach spans NFL, NBA, WNBA, MLB, PWHL, and USA Olympic teams, Power 4 collegiate athletic departments, and high-performing corporate organizations.

We are a team of 20+ sport psychology professionals who take both the science and the culture of sport seriously. We are in an exciting growth phase expanding our team, our client portfolio, and our impact across the athletic and performance landscape.

About this role

Are you passionate about helping athletes of all ages thrive on and off the field? Do you bring both clinical expertise and a drive to optimize performance through mental skills training? If so, this role was built for you.

Premier Sport Psychology is seeking a Licensed Athletic Counselor to join our dynamic and collaborative team. In this role you will work directly with athletes, coaches, and teams to support both mental health and performance goals blending traditional counseling with sport psychology tools in a way that is practical, evidence-based, and genuinely impactful.

This role requires someone who is equally comfortable in a therapy session and a locker room and who brings the clinical depth, performance expertise, and professional presence to earn trust across both settings. Confidence working with youth clients is essential.

What youll do

  • Provide individual counseling and mental performance services to athletes of all ages and competitive levels with confidence and skill working with youth clients
  • Apply evidence-based tools including mindfulness, emotional regulation, focus training, imagery, and confidence building to support both mental health and performance goals
  • Design and deliver workshops, presentations, and group sessions for teams, coaches, and staff
  • Partner with medical and training professionals to integrate mental skills into comprehensive performance plans
  • Collaborate with Premiers in-house team of psychologists and mental performance consultants on cases, programming, and professional development
  • Provide crisis intervention support when needed, in accordance with licensing standards
  • Build and nurture strong relationships with referral sources, clients, and partner organizations
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential clinical documentation in compliance with Minnesota and federal law

Required qualifications

  • Masters degree in counseling, clinical social work, marriage and family therapy, or a related behavioral health field
  • Licensed or license-eligible in Minnesota (LP, LPC, LPCC, LMFT, LCSW, or equivalent) full licensure required within 3 months of hire
  • 1+ years of experience in applied sport psychology or mental performance consulting, post-graduate degree
  • Demonstrated confidence and skill providing services to youth athletes and navigating parental dynamics
  • Experience providing culturally responsive services to clients from diverse backgrounds
  • Strong communicator and collaborator who thrives in a team-focused, high-performance environment
  • Flexible and adaptable able to work evenings and weekends as needed to meet client and contract demands

Preferred qualifications

  • Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) through AASP, or actively pursuing certification
  • Experience working within a collegiate athletic department or on an interdisciplinary sports medicine team
  • Familiarity with contract-based or multi-site work models comfortable managing a varied caseload across different client environments
  • Experience with biofeedback or other performance technology tools

This is a great fit if you

  • Are as comfortable in a locker room as you are in a counseling office and can shift between clinical and performance work seamlessly
  • Bring genuine passion for working with athletes and the patience that comes with serving youth populations
  • Are a low-ego collaborator who thrives in a team environment and represents the organization, not just yourself
  • Take initiative you see what needs doing and do it without being prompted
  • Understand that Premiers IP, frameworks, and brand are the foundation of the work, regardless of which client youre serving
  • Are open to feedback, committed to ongoing growth, and energized by a high-performance culture

Compensation and benefits

$80,000-$95,000 annually, based on experience, licensure, and credentials.

  • Full benefits package including health insurance and retirement plan
  • PTO and paid professional development opportunities
  • Access to internal and external continuing education and ongoing team collaboration
  • Opportunity to work within a respected and rapidly expanding practice with a strong referral network and access to a large sport psychology professional community
