Job description

The Memphis Grizzlies are seeking a dynamic individual to work in a fast-paced environment as our Health and Fitness Coordinator. The ideal candidate will help implement and administer effective outreach programs and events, under our pillars of education, health and fitness, and service, with a primary focus on health and fitness initiatives. The Health & Fitness Coordinator is primarily responsible for driving high levels of participation in, and commitment to health, wellness and fitness-driven outreach efforts. The Health & Fitness Coordinator will develop and implement strategies to increase visibility and storytelling of the Grizzlies community efforts by executing key outreach initiatives and developing meaningful relationships with local organizations throughout the Mid-South.


  • Lead all health & fitness initiatives and programs including: GrizzFit, Grizz Fuel, and Girls Summit;
  • Build and strengthen relationships with Sports-Based Youth Development (SBYD) stakeholders, including local Mid-South agencies, foundations, corporations, professional sports leagues & teams and government agencies;
  • Assist with the recruitment, screening, and selection of GrizzFit coaches with continued coaching and monitoring of overall coach outcomes once hired;
  • Lead student recruitment and registration, and monitor overall outcomes of all GrizzFit participants;
  • Create strength & conditioning and exercise curriculum primarily for youth;
  • Responsible for various administrative duties including, but not limited to, data entry, evaluation tracking, post-initiative/program recaps inclusive of tracked metrics, and weekly debriefs;
  • Conduct relevant market research to create, implement and/or expand existing health and fitness programs, initiatives and team event activations;
  • Support departmental fundraising ideas and implementation in support of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital;
  • Support all team appearances as needed;
  • Plan and execute special events, including set-up, coordination of vendors, equipment rentals, vender relations, and communication;
  • Serve as the primary liaison to the Youth Basketball Department on aligned efforts and partnerships; Other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science, Physical Education, Kinesiology, Sports Management, Non-Profit Management or other closely related field;
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience;
  • Knowledge of issues and best practices related to sports-based youth development programming, strength & conditioning techniques, wellness & mindfulness and community development;
  • Prior event planning experience including; setup, vendor relations, equipment rentals, marketing and communications;
  • Able to work with minimum supervision, demonstrating a high degree of initiative, and ability to produce high quality work under tight deadlines;
  • Ability to plan and execute special events, including but not limited to setup of the events;
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, problem solving skills, and ability to multitask;
  • Strong teamwork and cross-group collaboration;
  •  Strong relationship management skills;
  • Strong communication skills and business etiquette; ability to effectively interact with internal and external contacts;
  • Comfortable with public speaking at engagements and during events.
  • Able to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.                     

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge and understanding of NBA social responsibility programs
  • Prior experience within corporate social responsibility, community relations, philanthropy, cause-marketing, nonprofit management;
  • Prior experience working in a school or other field focused on student curriculum and advancement.
