What is a helper FIFO?

Helper FIFO (Fly-In Fly-Out) jobs refer to positions where workers are flown to remote locations, such as mining or construction sites, to work for a set period before flying back home for time off. Helpers assist skilled tradespeople or crews with various tasks, including equipment setup, site maintenance, and general labor. These roles typically involve working in shifts, often in challenging environments, and require flexibility and the ability to work as part of a team. FIFO arrangements are common in industries where job sites are far from residential areas, providing both transportation and accommodation for the duration of the shift rotation.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a helper FIFO?

To thrive as a Helper FIFO (Fly-In Fly-Out), you generally need physical stamina, basic mechanical skills, and the ability to follow safety protocols, usually supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with site-specific machinery, tools, and safety certifications such as White Card or First Aid is often required. Strong teamwork, adaptability, and effective communication are essential soft skills for collaborating in remote and dynamic work environments. These skills and qualifications are vital to ensure safety, efficiency, and smooth operations on-site.

What are common challenges faced by a helper FIFO and how can they be managed?

One of the most common challenges faced by Helper FIFO (Fly-In Fly-Out) workers is adapting to the rostered shifts and being away from home for extended periods. This can affect work-life balance and personal relationships. To manage these challenges, it's important to establish a strong support system, maintain regular communication with loved ones, and make use of on-site recreational facilities to unwind. Additionally, being proactive about physical and mental health—such as participating in wellness programs offered by employers—can help maintain overall well-being while on site.

What is the difference between Helper Fifo vs Helper Fifo?

AspectHelper Fifo

Since the comparison is between the same job title, Helper Fifo, there is no difference. Helper Fifo roles typically involve assisting in FIFO (First In, First Out) inventory management, working in warehouses or logistics environments, often requiring basic certifications or training. Job description

Our Quick Intro

At Brookhaven Market, we're more than just a chain of family-owned grocery stores; we're dedicated to crafting memorable customer experiences. Our mission is to bring the world's best foods to the communities we serve, ensuring every shopping trip is a journey of culinary delight.

Role Rundown

Brookhaven Market in Burr Ridge, IL is hiring a Full Time, onsite Kitchen Prep/Cook to keep our prepared foods case stocked with consistent, craveable results. Pay is $17–$20/hour.
This Kitchen Prep/Cook role is all about solid execution: prep and cook menu items to standardized recipes, keep your workstation clean and organized, and stay sharp on food safety, sanitation, and temperature control. When things get busy, you’ll jump onto dishwashing, help receive deliveries, rotate inventory using FIFO, and support waste reduction so the kitchen runs smooth.
You’ll do well here if you bring:
- Knowledge of basic cooking techniques
- Understanding of food safety and sanitation standards
- Familiarity with kitchen equipment and tools.
- Understanding of inventory rotation (FIFO) and waste reduction practices.
- Ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately.
- Strong time management and multitasking abilities.
- Knife skills and safe food preparation techniques.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Teamwork and communication skills.
- Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 30 lbs.
- Problem-solving skills during busy service times.
If you’ve handled a fast kitchen and like a steady full-time groove, apply now.

Daily Kitchen Flow

You’ll punch in and set up your station like a pro (tools out, temps checked, game on). The day moves in quick rounds—prep, cook, portion, repeat—so the prepared foods case stays looking sharp. Between batches, you’ll tidy as you go, knock out dishes, and keep labels and storage dialed in. When a delivery rolls up, you’ll help put it away and rotate stock so nothing gets buried in the back. You’ll head out with a clean reset for the next shift.

Perks for Pros

Kitchen Prep/Cook pace is real—so we’ve got your back with Medical, Dental & Vision, Paid Time Off to recharge, and Employee Discounts for the post-shift grocery run.
