Job description

Job Summary:
Old Dominion Insulation (ODI) is seeking motivated individuals to join our team as a Mechanical Insulator Helper. In this role, you will support experienced crews with the installation, removal, and repair of insulation on ductwork, plumbing, and HVAC piping. Responsibilities also include general construction tasks such as loading and unloading materials, site cleanup, spotting for lifts, and assisting with tools and equipment. No prior experience is required - we provide hands-on training and encourage anyone interested in building a long-term career in the insulation trade to apply.
Because many projects are performed on government sites, candidates must be able to pass a background check to gain access to the government-based site.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. This is not a complete listing, and other duties will be assigned based on the position's role within the business unit.
  • Assist in the installation, removal, or repair of insulation on mechanical and plumbing systems.
  • Measure, cut, and prepare insulation materials and jacketing.
  • Load, unload, and transport tools, equipment, and materials to designated areas.
  • Serve as a spotter for lifts and moving equipment to ensure job site safety.
  • Clean and prepare work areas, including removing debris, spills, and waste.
  • Safely operate basic hand tools and power tools under supervision.
  • Support crew members in completing tasks efficiently and safely.
  • Follow OSHA safety practices and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the insulation and construction team.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • This position supports a federal project that requires U.S. citizenship for site access. Applicants must be able to meet this requirement
  • Strong work ethic and ability to follow instructions.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills
  • Good communication and listening skills.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools safely.
  • Commitment to jobsite safety and teamwork.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment screenings (drug/alcohol test, background check as required).

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in construction, insulation
  • OSHA 10 training.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
  • High school diploma or GED

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, climb, and work in confined spaces.
  • Able to climb ladders and work at heights for extended periods.
  • Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs. regularly.
  • Comfortable working around moving equipment, dust, fumes, noise, and changing temperatures.
  • Able to wear required PPE.
