Position Announcement
Join Utah Valley University and play an important role in creating a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, employees, and visitors. In this position, you will perform a variety of custodial services, including floor care, carpet maintenance, restroom cleaning and restocking, and general facility upkeep. You'll be part of a team that takes pride in maintaining high standards across campus while following established safety procedures for handling cleaning products and responding to situations involving bloodborne pathogens and bodily fluids.
This position offers a consistent part-time evening schedule that can work well for individuals seeking daytime availability. The scheduled hours are Monday through Thursday from 8:15 pm to 1:15 am and Friday from 7:15 pm to midnight. If you enjoy independent work, attention to detail, and contributing to a positive campus experience, this role provides an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a supportive university environment.
Summary of Responsibilities
  • Responsible for securing doors and windows of all areas and all buildings.
  • Assists in emergency procedures and assists in recycling and pest control.
  • Helps the campus and its facilities maintain a positive public image by providing a safe, clean, and comfortable environment conducive to learning for students, visitors, and employees.
  • Maintains all types of floor, fabric, and upholstery surfaces.
  • Maintains and cleans restrooms, including porcelain and stainless steel surfaces, walls, floor drains, floors, etc.
  • Maintains offices, classrooms, labs, conference rooms, dining room, food preparation and serving areas, and ballroom.
  • Maintains halls, stairs, elevators, entryways, and lobbies.
  • Maintains inventory and cleans custodial closets and storage areas.

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
High school diploma from a standard high school or the equivalent, and any combination of post-high school education and/or directly related full-time experience to the Summary of Duties totaling six months is required.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of training in the proper use and disposal of hazardous chemicals and products.
  • Knowledge of body fluid cleanup and proper protection.
  • Knowledge of proper radio communications.
  • Knowledge of pest control.
  • Knowledge of all floor types, such as terrazzo, cement, wood, vinyl, and ceramic tile, as well as carpet fibers, weaves, and backings.
  • Knowledge of waxes/polishes, acids, other chemicals, buffers, extractors, vacuums, and scrubbers.
  • Knowledge of current cleaning techniques and proper cleaning chemicals.
Skills
  • Good interpersonal communication skills.
Abilities
  • Ability to withstand strenuous and adverse working conditions.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to perform skilled custodial duties, equipment maintenance, and minor plumbing.
