At North State Bank, we're looking for a CPA or mortgage accountant with deep mortgage accounting expertise and a passion for driving accuracy, efficiency, and strategic insight? We are seeking an experienced Mortgage Accounting Managerto lead the accounting operations supporting our Mortgage Division.

What You'll DoLead Mortgage Accounting Operations
  • Manage the accounting function for the Mortgage Division, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Maintain the integrity, accuracy, and functionality of mortgage accounting databases and reporting systems.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance processes, controls, efficiencies, and reporting capabilities.
Oversee Financial Reporting & Reconciliations
  • Review daily reconciliations for mortgage loans held for sale (HFS).
  • Ensure settlement accounts are balanced and cleared appropriately, researching and resolving discrepancies as needed.
  • Record mortgage loan closings, sales, and other related transactions.
  • Prepare mortgage commission calculations and related monthly accruals.
  • Prepare and analyze mortgage performance and financial reports for executive leadership and the Board of Directors review.
Manage Mortgage Accounting Activities
  • Oversee loan payment processing and remittance to appropriate institutions for sold loans.
  • Manage appraisal accounting activities, including invoice monitoring, approvals, collections, and write-off processes.
  • Prepare monthly mortgage hedging entries and support hedge-related transactions and settlements.
  • Process annual IRS Form 1098 reporting requirements.
Support Compliance & Risk Management
  • Partner with internal and external auditors by providing requested documentation and analysis.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of mortgage banking regulations, accounting standards, and industry best practices.
  • Monitor changes in GAAP and regulatory requirements and implement necessary updates to accounting processes and systems.
  • Support compliance reviews and examinations, including FHA/HUD and other regulatory audits.
What You BringRequired Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Active CPA license or in the process of obtaining a CPA license.
  • Five or more years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a banking or financial services environment.
  • Strong understanding of mortgage accounting and the originate-to-sell mortgage banking model.
  • Experience with financial reporting, reconciliations, accruals, internal controls, and audit support.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and working knowledge of accounting and financial systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with mortgage servicing, secondary market activities, and mortgage hedging.
  • Demonstrated success improving processes, reporting, and operational efficiencies.
