What You'll Do

As a Tax Manager, you will be a valuable member on engagements and provide state tax consulting and compliance services to a diverse client set. You will work directly with the client, be responsible for the tax engagement team, have access to a collaborative group of specialists when needed, and be connected to a strong support system from Firm Leadership to ensure you are set up for success in your role and career. Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Lead strong client relationships on tax consulting engagements
  • Advising clients on issues including partnership and corporate state / local tax returns with attention to multistate tax issues 
  • Coordinating with clients' internal tax leadership
  • Substantive review of estimated payment, withholding and composite tax calculations, investor packages and tax return compliance
  • Researching and analyzing state tax legislation for applicability to clients
  • Leading engagement workflow and supervising consultants and interns on assigned engagements
  • Mentorship and development of talent in a diverse and inclusive workplace

The successful candidate would possess these skills:

The Team
Deloitte's Multistate Tax Services Investment Management group has more than 1,500 professionals worldwide and our professionals include former state tax auditors/ administrators and technology personnel with numerous years of multistate tax experience. The Investment Management industry specialized professionals will collaborate with Multistate Tax Services professionals with a variety of expertise to holistically serve our clients' state and local tax needs. Our Multistate Tax Service's overall practice includes state income and franchise tax for a wide variety of industries, indirect tax, business restructuring, credits and incentives, sales and use tax outsourcing, excise tax, property tax, state strategic tax review, and state tax controversy. 
 

Qualifications
Required

  • Ability to perform job responsibilities within a hybrid work model that requires US Tax professionals to co-locate in person 2 - 3 days per week
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • 5+ years' experience in state income and franchise tax or federal tax, pass-through, tax research, and corporate tax returns
  • 4+ years' experience providing tax planning services and 2+ years' experience with investment management or partnership taxation
  • Limited immigration sponsorship may be available
  • Ability to travel up to 10%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve
  • One of the following active accreditations obtained:
    • Licensed CPA in state of practice/primary office if eligible to sit for the CPA
    • If not CPA eligible:
      • Licensed attorney
      • Enrolled Agent

  • Public Accounting experience
  • Excellent research and writing skills
  • Excellent presentation and communications skills
  • Management experience
The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $105,375 to $215,375.
