Unit Process Company, a division of Bray Sales, Inc., has been delivering engineered process solutions since 1951. We help industrial facilities operate safely, efficiently, and reliably through expertise in temperature control, pumps, valves & automation, and instrumentation.
We don't just supply products - we support the entire system lifecycle, from initial concept and design through startup, integration, training, and troubleshooting. Our engineers partner closely with OEMs, contractors, and plant teams to tackle real operational challenges. If you thrive on technical problem-solving, collaboration, and making a visible impact, this is a place where your skills truly matter.
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Lead Control Systems Engineer to guide the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of industrial control systems-including heat tracing, pump control, and valve automation. In this senior-level role, you will provide technical leadership, oversee complex projects, and mentor a team of engineers. You will ensure every solution meets client needs, industry standards, and the high level of quality we're known for.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the conceptual design, development, and implementation of industrial control systems (heat tracing, pump control, valve automation).
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and technical oversight to junior engineers.
  • Create control system architectures, functional specifications, heat trace designs, and detailed system documentation.
  • Program and configure PLCs, DCSs, SCADA systems, and HMIs.
  • Design control panels and specify instrumentation and control hardware.
  • Conduct site walkdowns to gather requirements and develop system architectures.
  • Perform simulations, FATs, and system commissioning activities.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize existing control systems for performance and efficiency.
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, resources, and milestones.
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary engineering teams and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in industrial controls.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • PE license preferred but not required.
  • 7+ years of experience in industrial control systems engineering.
  • Strong hands-on expertise with PLCs, DCSs, SCADA systems, heat trace controls, and industrial networks.
  • Proficiency in ladder logic, function block, and related programming languages.
  • Experience with major platforms (e.g., Rockwell, Siemens, Emerson, Thermon, ABB, Raychem).
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and team management abilities.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience leading large-scale control system projects from concept through commissioning.
  • Familiarity with applicable industry codes, standards, and best practices.
  • Commitment to staying current on advancements in industrial control and automation.
