Job description

The Middle School Health Aide supports the daily health needs of students and staff by assisting with basic first aid, illness care, medication procedures, health records, and communication with parents/guardians. This position helps maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming health office while following school policies, confidentiality requirements, and the direction of the school nurse or administration.

The Health Aide monitors students who visit the health office, documents visits accurately, contacts families when needed, supports students with minor injuries or illness, and helps ensure that health supplies and records are maintained. This role requires patience, strong communication skills, good judgment, and the ability to work well with middle school students.

JOB DESCRIPTION


TITLE:            Nurse Assistant


QUALIFICATIONS:  -    High school graduate or equivalent (CNA preferred)
-    Competency in typing, working knowledge of basic office procedures and the operation of common office equipment, machines and computers
-    Prior experience with medical records and/or nurse assistance training preferred.
-    Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities
-    Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable





REPORTS TO:    School Nurse


JOB GOAL:    To assist the school nurse in the smooth and efficient operation of the school health service in order to realize that service's maximum positive impact on the educational environment.


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities shall include but not be limited to the following:

-    Deliver health service under the direction of the school nurse.
-    Assist with screenings.
-    Maintain records and perform clerical work.
-    Become certified to do vision and hearing screening
-    Perform such duties as assigned in accord with school district needs by the superintendent or immediate supervisor




PHYSICAL TASKS:
-    Requires good physical health and strength, which allows lifting a minimum of 50 pounds and a full range-of motion to include reaching, bending, kneeling, stooping, walking and twisting.
-    Requires hand-eye coordination necessary to prepare materials for student use, reports for record keeping and parental communications, preferably with appropriate keyboarding skills.
-    Require hearing and vision (corrected) in normal range necessary to perform required tasks.
-    May require daily-prolonged physical activity such as standing, walking and lifting.
-    May require operation of small tools or equipment.






TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

-    The school year and two days before school starts and 1 day after school ends.
-    10 month contract
-    10 prorated sick leave days
-    2 prorated personal leave days
-    Grade 5 as per classified salary schedule




EVALUATION:    

-    Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the board's policy on evaluation of support staff (GDO)
