Salary Information
Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade. \r\n**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and Montgomery Personnel Board Rules & Regulations** \r\n
Nature of Work
The\r\nfundamental reason this classification exists is to inspect residential and\r\ncommercial structures and lots for compliance with the International Property\r\nMaintenance Code, ordinances, and related regulations and requirements.\r\nEmployees in this class perform entrylevel work in enforcing City codes\r\nrelated to deteriorated structures, unsanitary conditions, and other property\r\nmaintenance issues affecting public health and safety. Employees receive\r\ntraining and perform routine inspections with guidance from higherlevel\r\ninspectors when cases involve complex conditions or enforcement actions. The\r\nwork responsibilities include conducting basic interior and exterior\r\ninspections, reviewing lots and parcels for routine compliance issues,\r\ndocumenting violations, and assisting with preliminary steps related to\r\nnuisance or weed abatement. Employees may support higherlevel inspectors by\r\ngathering information, preparing inspection notes, and accompanying them on\r\nmore difficult cases. Additional duties may be assigned as part of ongoing\r\ndevelopment. Work is reviewed for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to\r\ndepartmental standards by the Assistant Chief Property Maintenance Inspector or\r\na higher-level inspector. This position reports to the Assistant Chief Property\r\nMaintenance Inspector.\r\n
Minimum Qualifications
\r\nHigh School Diploma or GED, and two (2) years of experience in construction, building maintenance, housing inspection support, property upkeep, renovation, maintenance, or a related field that provides basic knowledge of building conditions and structures. Education and training in construction, drafting, building inspections, environmental health, or a related area is a plus.\r\nNOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience\r\nthat provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and\r\nabilities to perform the job will be considered.\r\n\r\n
Special Requirements
Must be willing to work\r\noutdoors in all type of weather and be exposed to insect, rodents, unfriendly\r\npets and poisonous vegetation. Must\r\nobtain ICC Property Maintenance Inspector certification within one (1) year of\r\nemployment with the City of Montgomery Inspections Department. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's\r\nlicense as needed to operate city vehicles.\r\n\r\n
Kind of Examination
