Winship is seeking qualified candidates for the Research Informatics Analyst position. Position details are as follows:
Winship Data and Technology Shared Resource seeks a highly motivated Research Informatics Analyst to support cancerfocused translational, clinical, and population research across Winship Cancer Institute. This position serves as a key component of the shared resource infrastructure, providing centralized informatics and analytic expertise to investigators conducting cancer research across discovery, translational, and clinical domains.
The primary responsibility of this role is engineering scalable and reusable analytic datasets that support research reporting, cohort identification, feasibility analyses, and advanced analytics, with dedicated support for the Myeloma Research Team. The Research Informatics Analyst designs curated data models, develops optimized and maintainable SQL logic, and produces standardized data extracts that enable consistent downstream use across research and analytic workflows. The role leverages Epic analytics certifications and training grounded in Epic Cogito, with preferred experience aligned to Epic data environments such as Clarity, Caboodle, and Cosmos, as well as experience supporting automation, machine learning, and emerging data science initiatives.
The ideal candidate will bring substantial experience working with complex clinical and research datasets, and will contribute to project feasibility analyses, aggregatelevel reporting, dashboarding, and the development of reproducible, welldocumented analytic workflows. This position operates within a regulated research environment and requires familiarity with data governance, privacy, regulatory requirements, and best practices that ensure rigor, transparency, and responsible data use within cancer research.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Leads efforts to ensure that informatics systems support and advance the objectives and mission of Emory University.
- Works directly with faculty and staff to document, analyze, and translate their needs into technical designs and informatics solutions.
- Utilizes standard software requirements and design practices to document informatics solutions to support a wide range of activities across the university.
- Applies biomedical informatics technical standards, methodologies, and principles to program needs, objectives, and outcomes.
- Manages, from a client business perspective, related systems projects.
- Ensures a high level of client satisfaction by monitoring the delivery of ongoing information systems to the enterprise.
- Performs related responsibilities as required.
ADDITIONAL JOB INFORMATION:
- Provide informatics and analytic support for myeloma cancer research studies including clinical trials, translational research, and population-based projects.
- Access, integrate, clean, and analyze complex datasets from multiple clinical, operational, and research data sources.
- Partner with investigators to assess project feasibility, interpret research protocols, and translate eligibility criteria into data extraction and analytic workflows.
- Respond to ad hoc analytic requests and generate aggregate level summaries, reports, dashboards, and visualizations to support research and operational decision making.
- Apply best practices for data quality assessment, validation, documentation, reproducibility, and version control within a regulated research environment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A bachelor's degree and five years of experience in information technology or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience which includes experience working within a health, research, or academic institution.
- Knowledge of data and information systems standards relevant to the field of biomedical informatics and health systems.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in informatics, data science, analytics, public health or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated experience working with large, complex research or clinical datasets in an academic or healthcare setting.
- Demonstrated project management skills, including coordinating analytic work, managing timelines, and collaborating across technical, clinical, and research teams.
- Strong working knowledge of relational database design with advanced proficiency in SQL for developing complex queries and data extracts, along with experience using analytic or informatics tools such as SAS, R, and Python.
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
- Familiarity with research data governance, regulatory requirements, and best practices for documentation and reproducibility.
- Experience supporting automation, machine learning, and AI-enabled analytics is highly desirable, including development of scalable data pipelines and research-ready datasets that support advanced analytic and computational workflows.
