Job description

GENERAL FUNCTION

The Fit Futures Aid position is an important role at the YMCA. Under the direction of the Healthy Living Director and Fit Futures lead instructor and consistent with the Christian mission, the Fit Futures Aid is responsible for the safety, supervision, and instruction of Youth Fitness class for youth members to the standards of the YMCA and our partnering organization.

KNOW HOW

Incumbent must pass YMCA background checks and successfully complete and maintain CPR/AED and First Aid certifications or the ability to acquire them within 30 days of employment. Minimum of one year experience in fitness field and obtain a nationally accredited certification within one year of hire (must have cycle-specific certification if teaching cycle classes.)

This position requires the following, but is not limited to:

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES

Each person is employed as a staff member because the administration feels he/she will conscientiously assist in the fulfillment of the YMCA's mission by:

  • Basic knowledge in physiology, strength training, aerobic conditioning.
  • Responsible for starting and ending class on time.
  • Responsible for providing a safe class format, including all pertinent components of fitness.
  • Responsible for following assisting the lead instructor following guidelines of the YMCA and partnering organizations.
  • Responsible for group facilitation of youth and maintaining a high level of motivation and positive energy.
  • Passion for helping people achieve their fitness goals.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, in particular with lead instructor and Healthy Living Director.
  • Reliable, self-motivated and self-starter. Must work independently with little supervision.
  • Outgoing personality with a natural ability to build positive and trusting relationships with members, guests & staff.
  • Follow all YMCA guidelines for working with youth to keep youth safe and engaged.
  • Must be able to take initiative in making decisions and solving problems in the areas of assigned responsibilities.
  • Assist with maintaining immaculate facilities by performing routine cleaning and returning items to proper storage areas.
  • Responsible for setup take down of equipment and care for equipment.
  • Responsible for reporting accidents/incidents by being sure the required forms are submitted in a timely manner by the Healthy Living Director or MOD.
  • Responsible for reporting all equipment repair issues to the Healthy Living Director
  • Assist with other projects in the Health and Fitness Department as instructed by supervisor or executive leadership team.
  • Assist in daily operations as needed with ongoing programs
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by supervisor or executive level leadership
  • Attends staff meetings, trainings and special events as outlined upon hire date.
