Job Description:
Primary Purpose
University of Waterloo is a leading global innovation hub that drives economic and social prosperity for Canada and the world. With more than 41,000 students, we are home to the world's largest co-op education talent pipeline, to game-changing research and technology, and to an unmatched entrepreneurial culture. Together, these create partnerships and solutions to tackle today's and tomorrow's challenges.
At the university, the Marketing and Communications function is responsible for enhancing and protecting the university's reputation. The communications function specifically leads by helping the university communicate with clarity, credibility and purpose, while developing governance, standards and protocols to uphold consistent, coordinated and effective communications across campus.
The Communications Specialist I, Faculty of Health is a role responsible for contributing to the planning, development, delivery and evaluation of communications initiatives that support institutional priorities. The role applies communications knowledge, professional judgment and strong organizational capability to develop content, coordinate communications activities and support stakeholder engagement across a variety of channels and audiences. Working within established communications frameworks and standards, the role contributes to effective communications outcomes through independent management of assigned work and collaboration with stakeholders and communications colleagues.
The Faculty of Health communications team shares work that promotes and protects health and well-being - from fundamental discovery to applied research, education, prevention and community partnership. The team connects prospective and current students, faculty, staff, alumni, partners and wider communities with the Faculty's programs, people and impact. Working with academic and administrative leaders, researchers, subject-matter experts and communications colleagues across Waterloo, the team develops clear, accessible and audience-focused content in support of a healthier world.
You will help audiences discover the people and ideas advancing health at Waterloo. You will plan, develop and coordinate content for the Faculty's social media accounts and contribute to web, newsletters, promotional materials and stakeholder communications - highlighting research, academic programs, student experiences, events and community impact. You will work across varied subject matter, gathering and synthesizing information from Faculty leaders, researchers and partners and turning it into accurate, engaging communications. The role offers meaningful professional ownership: you will independently manage assigned work, coordinate contributors and approvals, and use audience feedback and performance information to improve delivery within established plans and standards.
The role supports communications that advance Faculty priorities, strengthen awareness of Faculty programs, initiatives, research, events and community stories, and help connect Faculty audiences with clear, timely and audience-focused information.
