Position Purpose

Under the direction of the Medical and Deputy Directors, or his/her designee, the Core Faculty Physician provides primary health care, in a primary health care clinic, serving the low-income, working poor, homeless, and those individuals with barriers to health care, of Douglas County. The physician assumes the responsibility of routine patient care including assessment, diagnosis, and evaluation of injury and/or illness, and ordering of routine exams. Utilizes skills in providing diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic health problems including, curative and preventive medical care, health promotion and education, continuing case evaluation and management. Ensures efficient and effective patient care through collaborative planning and problem solving with Advanced Practice Providers, clinic staff, and volunteers. Acts as consultant for and provides guidance for Advanced Practice Providers regarding clinical practice issues. Provides care consistent with policies and procedures of the organization. Commit to train future family physicians to deliver quality health services to patients of diverse cultural, ethnic and economic backgrounds. You will teach the residents to treat all patients with dignity regardless of the patient's background.

Primary Duties

Family Physician

  • Promotes a strong belief in Aviva Health's philosophy, purpose, and ideals.
  • Performs history taking, physical examination, diagnosis, and therapeutic treatment planning.
  • Demonstrates respect and sensitivity to cultural/social differences in interactions with others.
  • Provides primary clinical care, including urgent and chronic care, orders and performs tests and treatment required, provides education for patients/families.
  • Includes basic principles of healthy lifestyle and health risk reduction with patient encounter.
  • Makes referrals to specialists and community resources as necessary.
  • Ensures appropriate follow-up of patients seen.
  • Meets and promotes organizational standards for excellence in service for patients, staff and physicians.
  • Serves as a consultant and provides guidance for Advance Practice practitioners regarding practice issues.
  • Participate in the home-call rotation schedule as needed
  • Meets all mandatory education requirements and participates in continuing education for professional growth.

Core Faculty Member of the Family Residency Program

  • Devote sufficient time to the education program to fulfill supervisory and teaching responsibilities; and to demonstrate a strong interest in the education of residents.
  • Teach and train resident physicians and medical students (when applicable) in Family Medicine while providing high quality, evidence based, cost effective, high quality care for patients without sacrificing patient or learner safety.
  • Foster and encourage a life-long learning attitude that takes into account resident and faculty well-being.
  • Participate regularly in scheduled didactics (including, but not limited to: journal clubs, lectures, grand rounds, interdisciplinary conferences, M&M sessions, resident presentations, procedure and other workshops).
  • Provide didactic lectures for the residency program as directed by the Program Director.
  • Mentor and coach residents, advise them regarding their career and educational goals.
  • Serve on committees at the hospital or clinic to enhance medical education, patient care, or quality improvement at those facilities. Serve on administrative and leadership committees to serve as a liaison between the residency and the teaching faculty.
  • Establish and maintain an environment of inquiry and scholarship with active research component.
  • Participate and lead in scholarly activity driven by interest and as directed by the program director to fulfill the requirements laid out in the ACGME Family Medicine Program Requirements.
  • Participate and lead quality improvement activities, while incorporating residents, driven by interest and as directed by the program director to fulfill the ACGME Program Requirements.
  • Supervise Family Medicine Residents QA/QI and research activities as required/appropriate.
Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited allopathic or osteopathic medical school.
  • Successful completion of an accredited Family Medicine Residency with 3 or more years of experience
  • Professional clinical experience in Family Practice, including adult and pediatric acute and chronic primary care. Obstetrics, office gynecology, and emergency care desired.
  • Current unencumbered licensure in the state of Oregon or license-eligible to practice medicine in Oregon.
  • Holds current unencumbered DEA license.
  • Current board certification by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) or the American Osteopathic Board of Family Medicine (AOBFM).
  • Ability to obtain credentialing by UHA, Medicare, & Other Commercial Insurers.
  • Ability to obtain privileges at Mercy Medical Center preferred.
  • Current Oregon driving license.
  • CPR certification.
