What is a headless developer?

A Headless Developer specializes in building applications using headless architecture, where the frontend (user interface) is decoupled from the backend (content management or data source). This allows developers to create flexible, scalable, and customizable digital experiences across multiple platforms like web, mobile apps, and IoT devices. Headless Developers typically work with APIs to connect the backend to various frontends, enabling faster development cycles and easier content delivery. Their expertise is valuable for organizations seeking omnichannel solutions and modern web development practices.

How does a headless developer typically collaborate with designers and backend teams on projects?

As a Headless Developer, you will often work closely with designers to implement user interfaces using frontend frameworks, while collaborating with backend teams to integrate APIs and data sources. This role requires strong communication skills to ensure the visual and functional aspects of the application align with both design guidelines and backend capabilities. Expect to participate in regular stand-ups, code reviews, and planning sessions where cross-team coordination is essential for delivering seamless digital experiences. Effective collaboration is key to addressing challenges that arise from decoupling the frontend and backend.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a headless developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Headless Developer, you need a strong background in web development, API design, JavaScript frameworks (such as React or Vue), and a solid understanding of headless CMS platforms. Familiarity with tools like Contentful, Strapi, GraphQL, RESTful APIs, and version control systems (e.g., Git) is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, effective communication, and adaptability to rapidly changing technologies are valuable soft skills. These competencies ensure seamless integration of backend and frontend systems, delivering flexible, scalable digital experiences.

What is the difference between Headless Developer vs Front-End Developer?

About Salesforce

Salesforce is the #1 AI CRM, where humans with agents drive customer success together. Here, ambition meets action. Tech meets trust. And innovation isn't a buzzword - it's a way of life. The world of work as we know it is changing and we're looking for Trailblazers who are passionate about bettering business and the world through AI, driving innovation, and keeping Salesforce's core values at the heart of it all.

Ready to level-up your career at the company leading workforce transformation in the agentic era? You're in the right place! Agentforce is the future of AI, and you are the future of Salesforce.

The Experience:

We are the CCO Product Strategy team - a newly formed and fast-growing group within Salesforce's Chief Customer Officer (CCO) organization. We sit at the intersection of product, data, and strategy, and we're building our data capability from the ground up. This is a rare opportunity to join at the foundation stage and directly shape how our team harnesses data to drive customer success outcomes across the Salesforce ecosystem.
Our stack: Tableau Next, Snowflake, and Salesforce Data Cloud. Our mission: build the gold standard for data products that power CCO and Customer Success strategy. We're scaling the team behind the Headless 360 Data Foundation Platform - a predictive P&L engine replacing static spreadsheet analysis with customer-level P&L management.

What You Will Be Building

  • Product roadmap and Spring Planning - own the sprint planning and feature prioritization and Headless 360 Data Foundation Platform product roadmap

  • Metric Definition Ratification - Own the process for ratifying business logic and metric definitions with stakeholders

  • Backlog Prioritization - Own the product development backlog and enforce the roadmap / customer requests / tech debt split sprint over sprint.

  • Stakeholder Ratification - Run the release gate, user testing, feedback loop, demos and drive adoption across stakeholders.

You're Our Person If:

  • You've operated in RevOps, Finance, or a similar analytics-adjacent function and are fluent in how P&L and adoption metrics get defined and defended.

  • You're comfortable with data modeling concepts well enough to arbitrate between engineering and stakeholder definitions of a metric.

  • You've run agile ceremonies before and know how to keep a backlog honest under competing pressure from roadmap, consumers, and tech debt.

  • You're a clear, low-drama communicator who can get a room of stakeholders to a decision rather than another meeting.

  • You thrive in ambiguous, 0-to-1 environments and want to help stand up governance for a data platform from scratch.

Must-Have Skills

  • Technical data product owner background

  • Data modeling fluency

  • Metric governance experience (definitions, ownership, versioning)

  • Excellent communication skills

Even Better If:

  • Experience with Tableau, Tableau Next, or Salesforce Data Cloud

  • Familiarity with dbt or semantic-layer concepts

  • Experience standing up a PM tool (Linear or similar) and sprint rhythm for a new team
