Job description

Head of Estimating
Industrial Construction | Lower Mainland, BC
$180,000 Base Salary

DMC Recruitment Group is pleased to partner with our client, an organization in the industrial construction industry that is in hyper-growth mode. Located in Langley, British Columbia, they are in search of a Head of Estimating.

About the Opportunity
This is a senior leadership opportunity for an accomplished construction estimator who understands the complexity of industrial work and knows how to build a strong estimating function around it.

Our client delivers a diverse mix of projects across British Columbia, ranging from heavy industrial construction supporting mining, port, and infrastructure environments to industrial and commercial buildings, including cold storage, warehouse, and tilt-up construction.

They are looking for a Head of Estimating who can bring these worlds together.

You will take ownership of the estimating function, provide leadership and direction to the team, and play an important role in determining which opportunities the business pursues and how those projects are positioned from the outset.

This is not simply a role focused on producing estimates. It is an opportunity to influence project selection, pricing strategy, risk management, and the continued growth of the business. You will have a seat at the leadership table, with real input on the business.

Key Responsibilities
As Head of Estimating, you will lead the estimating and preconstruction process from initial opportunity through tender submission and project handover.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Lead the preparation and review of estimates for complex industrial construction projects
  • Oversee estimating across a diverse project portfolio, including heavy industrial, mining, port, cold storage, warehouse, and tilt-up construction
  • Review drawings, specifications, scopes of work, schedules, and tender documents to develop accurate and competitive estimates
  • Provide senior-level oversight on project pricing, constructability, risk, exclusions, and commercial considerations
  • Establish estimating strategies and ensure consistency and discipline across the estimating process
  • Lead bid reviews and provide recommendations on project opportunities, pricing, and risk
  • Develop and maintain relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, and industry partners
  • Support procurement and subcontractor pricing strategies
  • Work closely with operations and project leadership to ensure a strong transition from estimating into project execution
  • Use completed-project information and market intelligence to continually improve estimating accuracy
  • Mentor and develop estimating team members while establishing clear standards and expectations
  • Help strengthen estimating systems, processes, cost databases, and reporting
  • Partner with senior leadership on pipeline planning, project selection, and growth opportunities
What Successful Candidates Bring
The successful candidate will have significant estimating experience within the construction industry and a track record of successfully pricing complex industrial work.
We are particularly interested in candidates who bring:
  • Extensive construction estimating experience, ideally at a Senior Estimator, Chief Estimator, Estimating Manager, or Director level
  • Strong experience with heavy industrial construction, including exposure to mining, ports, terminals, processing facilities, or comparable industrial environments
  • Experience estimating industrial building projects, ideally including cold storage, warehouses, distribution facilities, or tilt-up construction
  • Strong understanding of construction methodology, sequencing, labour, materials, equipment, subcontractor scopes, and project risk
  • Experience leading complex tenders and developing estimates from conceptual through detailed stages
  • Strong commercial judgment and the ability to balance competitiveness with project risk and margin expectations
  • Experience leading, mentoring, or developing estimators
  • Strong relationships and credibility with subcontractors and suppliers
  • The ability to communicate effectively with operations teams, project managers, executives, clients, and external partners
  • A practical, detail-oriented approach combined with the ability to see the bigger commercial picture
Why This Opportunity Stands Out
This role will help shape the future of this organization as it continues to grow aggressively over the next 3-5 years.

Rather than being limited to one construction type, you will have exposure to projects ranging from technically demanding heavy industrial environments to large-scale industrial buildings.

You will also have meaningful influence over the front end of the business. The Head of Estimating will work closely with senior leadership and operations to determine which projects make sense to pursue, how to approach risk, and how the company positions itself to win profitable work.

For someone with a strong estimating career who is ready for greater ownership, leadership exposure, and influence, this is a compelling next step.

Compensation: $180,000 base salary
Additional compensation and benefits will be discussed with qualified candidates as part of the recruitment process.
