POSITION SUMMARY

The PGA Head Golf Professional serves as the primary leader and ambassador of the golf facility, responsible for delivering an exceptional golfing experience to members and guests. This role involves overseeing all golf operations, including instruction, tournament coordination, merchandising, and staff management, to ensure smooth and efficient daily functioning. The Head Golf Professional plays a critical role in promoting the game of golf, fostering community engagement, and driving revenue growth through innovative programming and superior customer service. Acts as a mentor and leader to the golf staff, cultivating a positive and professional work environment that supports continuous development. Ultimately, this position is pivotal in maintaining the facility’s reputation for excellence and enhancing the overall enjoyment and satisfaction of all customers.

REQUIREMENTS, ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The required skills enable the Head Golf Professional to effectively lead daily golf operations, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable experience for all players. Strong instructional skills are applied to develop golfers’ abilities and foster a welcoming learning environment. Leadership and communication skills are essential for managing staff, coordinating events, and maintaining positive relationships with members and vendors. Financial acumen and organizational skills support budgeting, merchandising, and operational efficiency, driving the facility’s success. Preferred skills such as marketing expertise and technology proficiency enhance the ability to promote the golf program and streamline administrative tasks, contributing to overall growth and member satisfaction, in addition to other duties as assigned:

  • Manage and oversee all aspects of golf operations, including tee time scheduling, golf shop merchandising, and equipment maintenance.
  • Provide high-quality club fitting, golf instruction and coaching to players of all skill levels, from beginners to advanced golfers.
  • Plan, organize, and execute golf tournaments, leagues, and special events to engage members and attract new clientele.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise golf staff, including assistant professionals, and other staff, ensuring adherence to PGA standards.
  • Work collaboratively with Golf Operations and Marketing to develop and implement marketing strategies to promote the golf facility and increase participation and revenue.
  • Maintain strong relationships with members, guests, and vendors to ensure exceptional service and operational efficiency.
  • Manage budgets, financial reporting, and inventory control to optimize profitability and resource allocation.
  • Stays current with PGA regulations, industry trends, and best practices to continuously improve the golf program.
  • Collects facilities retail merchandise sales and associated golf fees.
  • Performs personnel tasks including recruitment, training, evaluations, and recommendations for discharge.
  • Prepares daily cash reports and maintains proper cash on hand.
  • Conducts staff meeting for updating information on safety, policy and procedures.
  • Maintains proper merchandise inventory.
  • Maintains facility for cleanliness and proper appearance.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Current membership in the Professional Golfers' Association of America (PGA) as a Class A Professional.
  • Proven experience in golf operations management, preferably as a Head Golf Professional or Assistant Golf Professional.
  • Strong knowledge of golf instruction techniques and player development.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage and motivate a diverse team.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, merchandising, and event planning effectively.
  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience, preferred
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Must exhibit excellence in Customer Service with all customers.
  • Experience working in a private club, public or resort golf facility.
  • Certification in golf instruction or coaching beyond PGA membership.
  • Proficiency with golf management software and point-of-sale systems.
  • Background in marketing or business development related to golf operations.
  • Knowledge of golf course maintenance and agronomy principles.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises employees in the Pro Shop. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.


Physical Demands and Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is not regularly required to sit. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is required to stand, walk; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Greater than 50 pounds may require a team lift. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. Specific required movements include the following: trunk-bend, twist, rotate, push, pull, and carry, arm’s reach, and leg-lifts.
