The Role:
OneMain Financial is seeking an experienced executive for VP/MD Head of Corporate Communications.
This critical leadership role will develop and lead the company's overarching communications strategy in support of OneMain's business objectives, reputation, culture, and relationships with key stakeholders. Reporting to the Head of External Affairs, the Head of Corporate Communications will serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO and senior leadership team on executive communications, employee communications, media relations, reputation management, and significant business and policy developments. This leader will translate OneMain's strategic priorities into an integrated communications roadmap and establish the operating cadence, capabilities, and measurement framework needed to execute it effectively.
The successful candidate will be a strong enterprise collaborator, partnering closely with External Affairs, Finance, Investor Relations, Human Resources, Legal, Compliance, Operations, Marketing, and Technology. This is an opportunity to build and develop a best-in-class Corporate Communications function as OneMain continues to grow and evolve.
Key responsibilities:
  • Develop and own OneMain's enterprise communications strategy, aligning communications priorities and resources with the company's business objectives.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO and senior leadership team on communications strategy, executive positioning, sensitive announcements, stakeholder messaging, and reputation management.
  • Develop and oversee the company's internal communications strategy and operating cadence, including enterprise announcements, leadership communications, companywide meetings, cultural narratives, and annual and quarterly business updates.
  • Establish clear communications standards, processes, and governance to promote consistency, accuracy, appropriate review, and alignment across internal and external communications.
  • Develop and execute communications strategies that support effective change management, ensuring that companywide changes, new policies, and strategic shifts are communicated clearly, consistently, and through appropriate channels and cadences.
  • Partner closely with the Head of External Affairs to develop and execute strategies relating to media relations, executive thought leadership, issues management, public affairs, and proactive corporate storytelling.
  • Protect and enhance OneMain's reputation among employees, customers, investors, regulators, policymakers, the media, community partners, and other key stakeholders.
  • Lead executive communications, including speeches, presentations, leadership messages, employee communications, external statements, talking points, and other materials for the CEO and senior executives.
  • Lead communications supporting significant business events and developments, including, regulatory matters, acquisitions, policy developments, organizational changes, and strategic initiatives. Support communications related to quarterly earnings.
  • Lead media relations in partnership with External Affairs, including proactive engagement, response strategy, message development, media preparation, and relationship-building with relevant national, financial-services, trade, and local media.
  • Oversee issues and crisis communications, including preparedness, escalation protocols, scenario planning, executive counsel, rapid-response messaging, and coordination with Legal, Compliance, Risk, and other relevant functions.
  • Monitor and analyze media coverage, stakeholder sentiment, industry developments, policy trends, and emerging reputational issues, and provide timely insights and recommendations to senior leadership and other internal audiences.
  • Develop a communications measurement framework that uses meaningful data and insights to assess effectiveness, inform strategy, and demonstrate impact against business and reputational objectives.
  • Manage external communications agencies and vendors, including scopes of work, resource allocation, performance expectations, budgets, and periodic reviews.
  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing Corporate Communications team, including defining roles and responsibilities, strengthening capabilities, and planning for succession in critical positions.
  • Manage the Corporate Communications budget and headcount plan, ensuring that resources remain aligned with changing business needs and priorities.
  • Evaluate and responsibly deploy communications technologies, including generative artificial intelligence tools, in alignment with OneMain's legal, compliance, cybersecurity, privacy, and technology-governance standards.
  • Travel: up to 30% domestic travel

Required Qualifications
  • Approximately 10 years of experience in corporate communications, executive communications, public affairs, media relations, or a related field, with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Business, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience leading communications teams or significant communications initiatives in a corporate, public company, highly regulated, or public affairs environment.
  • Experience developing and executing communications strategies that support business priorities.
  • Experience advising senior executives on communications related to business, organizational, or reputational matters.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex business, financial, regulatory, or policy topics into clear, compelling communications for a variety of audiences.
  • Experience developing executive, employee, and stakeholder communications across multiple channels.
  • Sound judgment and experience supporting issues management, organizational change, crisis communications, or other high-profile business situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships, influence across functions, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience using data, insights, or feedback to measure communications effectiveness and inform strategy.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in financial services, banking, consumer finance, insurance, healthcare, or another regulated industry.
  • Experience partnering with Legal, Compliance, Investor Relations, Human Resources, Government Relations, or Public Policy teams.
  • Experience leading or helping evolve a corporate communications function, team, or communications strategy.
  • Experience in both in-house corporate communications and agency environments.
  • Familiarity with generative AI tools and emerging communications technologies.

Target base salary range is $250,000 - $275,000 which is based on various factors including skills and work experience. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for a competitive bonus compensation program that is based on individual and company performance.
