Pay Rate: Starting at $17.00 per hour
Hours: Practice Mon - Friday 3:45pm - 8:15pm and Sat 11am - 5pm
Swim Meets 3 - 4 days a week and then Swim Meets, (4 per season).
Additional Office Hours.
JOB SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Aquatics Programs Supervisor, the Head Swim Team Coach is responsible for the safety, instruction and training of children participating in the Elk Grove Swim Team, supervision of the Swim Team Coach Staff, and organization of the Team. The Head Swim Coach may be a year-round or seasonal employee.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Create workouts and conduct daily practices for Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced groups
  • Coach swimmers on technique and endurance to improve skills and times
  • Create a positive, nurturing, and inclusive environment to foster swimmer development and motivation.
  • Communicate with athletes, parents, and coaches
  • Conduct Time Trials with individual swimmers when needed to set level placement and Meet Lineups
  • Assist the Aquatics Programs Supervisor with creating the monthly coach's schedule
  • Use the scoreboard during practice to help swimmers learn timekeeping
  • Attend Northern Illinois Swim Conference Meetings and Coaches Trainings, as well as all Swim Meets
  • Schedule and prepare for Home and Away Swim Meets, including creating line-ups, facility and equipment set up, organizing volunteers, and communicating with the opposing team(s)
  • Work with the Aquatics Programs Supervisor to order necessary equipment and supplies for the team
  • Schedule staff and respond to coverage needs in daily schedule
  • Maintain a commitment to the operation of a safe and effective aquatics environment
  • Operate any equipment necessary in accomplishing required tasks in a safe manner
  • Bring and use proper sun protection on every shift that includes time outdoors

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Set up and clean up of daily practices and Swim Meets
  • Complete daily attendance records
  • Be familiar with the Character Counts program and the 6 Pillars of Character
  • Utilize scheduling software to communicate monthly availability and view scheduled shifts
  • Perform the job safely and in compliance with district policies, procedures, work and safety rules
  • Be familiar with the safe operation of any equipment necessary in accomplishing required tasks
  • Follow all Federal and State Labor Laws
  • Serve as a Mandated Reporter
  • Maintain a commitment to the operation of safe and effective aquatic environment
  • Go beyond the expected to provide exemplary customer service to patrons, including sharing information about the pool rules, EGPD programs, facilities, and events, and answering questions
  • Responsible for other duties as deemed appropriate by Aquatics Supervisors or Aquatics Manager

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS
  • Must work closely with co-workers
  • Subject to modified/flexible work schedule
  • Subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds
  • Work in a wide range of weather conditions which can include cold, rain, humidity, and extreme heat
  • The Head Swim Team Coach must be safety conscientious and use good judgment

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Critical thinking and effective decision making skills
  • Ability to work with diverse populations
  • Ability to work cooperatively in teams and with others.
  • Good knowledge of pertinent safety precautions
  • Ability to use Google Suite or learn within 4 weeks of hire
  • CPR Certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
  • Ability to maintain positive and effective working relationships with other employees.
  • Ability to complete Mandated Reporter Training within 6 weeks of hire
  • Must be 16 years of age or older

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Previous competitive swimming experience required
  • Prior experience working with children and teenagers preferred
  • Experience with Meet Manager Software desired
