The Carnegie Hall Cleaners are responsible for maintaining a high standard of cleanliness throughout assigned venues, backstage areas, and performance-related spaces. Reporting to the Front-of-House Manager, the Hall Cleaners are part of a dedicated team creating extraordinary experiences for audiences with world-class support. We are seeking a motivated and dedicated individual to ensure all areas associated with Carnegie Hall performances are prepared for audiences, guests, and staff. This is a union position in agreement between Carnegie Hall and SEIU-32bj.
Work schedules are based on Carnegie Hall's production calendar and will typically consist of five (5), eight-hours shifts per week. This position requires flexibility to work outside a regular schedule as needed, including additional hours between matinee and evening performances. Overtime is compensated at one and one-half times the hourly rate. All scheduling is determined by the Front-of-House Manager.
Expectations
  • Deliver high quality cleaning to assigned spaces, creating a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for everyone, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, waxing, polishing floors, trash removal, and additional tasks as needed
  • Contribute to a positive, respectful, and team friendly workplace where safety, professionalism, and collaboration are valued
  • Work closely with the Head Cleaner and Assistant Head Cleaners, following guidance on daily assignments, scheduling changes, and performance expectations while maintaining open communication
  • Demonstrate flexibility by adapting to ongoing operational needs, including overtime or schedule adjustments when required
  • Report to work on time and prepared for each scheduled shift to support smooth daily operations
  • Follow all safety policies and best practices
  • Perform the physical aspects of the role, including standing, walking, lifting, bending, and other activities associated with this position to successfully complete assigned responsibilities
  • Flexibility working a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays, based on operational needs

Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in custodial, janitorial, housekeeping, or maintenance required
  • Demonstrates a positive, proactive attitude, taking initiative and eagerness to learn
  • Confidence in working independently as well as collaborating with a team
  • Strong work ethic capable of completing tasks efficiently without compromising quality
  • Experienced in inspecting venues and connecting spaces to maintain high standards
  • Proven ability to communicate clearly and effectively with supervisors, management and co-workers
  • Ability to coordinate tasks based on a frequently updated schedule
  • Excellent time management skills within a fast-paced environment
