Job description

DSWA is accepting applications to fill a full time Wellfield Technician position at the Central Solid Waste Management Center located in Felton,DE. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. The position includes a full benefit package including State of DE Pension, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and other benefits.

This is a safety sensitive position that requires drug and alcohol testing.

Minimum Starting Payrate: $18.34 per hour

ESSENTIAL TASKS:

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class. Since class specifications are descriptive and not restrictive, incumbents can complete job duties of similar kind not specifically listed here.

  • Modifies landfill gas systems in accordance with system or landfill needs.
  • Expands landfill gas system in accordance with plans.
  • Repairs landfill gas system as necessary.
  • Identifies potential malfunctions in the landfill gas system.
  • Collects data to maintain operations logs and generate daily reports.
  • Responds to on-call alarms (24-hour) to identify and rectify the source of the environmental protection and monitoring system alarms.
  • ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
  • May provide back up to equipment operator.
  • May provide back up to the Environmental Technician
  • Provides minimal assistance for Landfill Gas Plant by performing required operations and maintenance as needed to a variety of machinery air coolers, compressors, coalescing filers, oil/water separator, refrigeration skid, pumps, flares, GC, flow meters and blowers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. No experience required. Must possess a valid drivers license and First Aid and CPR certification. (Certification training provided by DSWA)

Note: This is a safety sensitive position and requires drug testing as a condition of employment.

Knowledge of basic mechanics. Knowledge of heavy equipment. Skill in fusing pipe. Ability to communicate effectively.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires standing, walking, sitting, reaching with hands and arms, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking and hearing.

This position requires lifting up to 75 pounds.

The position requires close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less). Distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more). Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors). Peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up or down or to the left and right when vision is fixed on a given point). Depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships). Ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).
